Hillier gets best finish of season against the Outlaws ALK Promotions, July 7
Chad Hillier’s second season racing with the best in the world is steadily improving, as he continues to make A-Features with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Series and getting better finishes. Saturday and Sunday nights, he scored two of his best finishes and tied his highest of the season.
After an 18th place effort at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota on Thursday night, Chad earned two top-12 finishes during the weekend in the DIRT Inc. No. 5c Maxim sponsored by Jansma Construction, Wink Dog Motorsports and Fast Wings.
Hillier started his best weekend of the season Saturday by timing in 13th out of 32 cars at West Memphis, Arkansas’s Riverside International Speedway, popularly known by fans as “The Ditch.” His time was 11.434 seconds around the ¼-mile clay oval. His fourth place finish in the first heat race resulted in a 13th starting position for the 40-lap A-Feature, where he would finish 11th and pick up $1,500 for his efforts.
Sunday saw the “Greatest Show of Dirt” move north to Indiana for another race on a ¼-miler, this one being Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt. Qualifying went even better this time, as he qualified fifth out of 30 cars with a time of 12.282 seconds. In the second heat race Chad finished sixth to qualify for the 40-lap A-Feature event.
Starting 11th, Hillier would drive his way to a ninth place finish, tying his effort at Tri-City Speedway in Illinois in June for his best of the year. Hillier picked up another $2,050 for his efforts and also solidified his place at 16th in the standings. He sits 124 tallies behind Tony Bruce Jr. for 15th.
It was a great start to the month for Hillier, but 13 races remain in the brutal month of July. Next for Chad is Wednesday’s Brad Doty Classic at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio. The Brad Doty Classic is a race everyone wants to win, as it honors one of sprint car racing’s greatest ambassadors. Two nights of racing follow that on Friday and Saturday night, when Chad will battle for the coveted Kings Royal crown at Eldora Speedway, where SPEED will have its cameras rolling. A swing through Pennsylvania is next week also. The series will also race in New York, Michigan, Kentucky, Iowa and Ontario, Canada this month.
