Van Dam earns top-five finish
ALK Promotions, July 7

Henry Van Dam’s run of strong finishes continued Saturday night at Grays Harbor Raceway where he again finished in the top-five in winged 360 sprint car action.

Van Dam, who entered the night third in the point standings but only eight tallies back of co-leaders Jay Cole and Glenn Borden Jr., started the 30-lap main event in the eighth position and finished fifth aboard the Van Dam Racing No 33v Shark-powered Rocket sponsored by Van Dam Dairy, Corliss Resources, Shareway Industries, Rich Van Dam Dairy and GMS Metal Works. Earlier in the evening, Van Dam finished third in his heat race.

Van Dam remains in the hunt for both the 360 sprint car championship at Grays Harbor Raceway and the ASCS Northwest Region championship. Van Dam is only four points back of Seth Bergman in the ASCS Northwest standings. Van Dam will be back at Grays Harbor Raceway for the track’s mid-season championships this Saturday night.

Following that, Van Dam will race six straight nights next week as the ASCS Northwest Region runs the annual Northwest Speed Week, which starts Monday, July 14 at Southern Oregon Speedway near Medford. Cottage Grove Speedway near Eugene welcomes the tour on Tuesday and Willamette Speedway bring back winged sprint car action on Wednesday. On Thursday, July 17, the series will visit Sunset Speedway Park, a small track in Banks, Ore. that had never been visited by the tour’s predecessors, the Northern Sprint Tour and Northwest Sprint Challenge Series. Most of the drivers, including Van Dam, have never even seen the place.

The day after the event at Sunset, Van Dam and the ASCS Northwest Region returns to Grays Harbor Raceway for two nights of racing in the Evergreen State Sprint Challenge, which is back after a year’s absence. In May’s opening events of the inaugural ASCS Northwest Region season at Elma, Van Dam scored finishes of second and fourth, that fourth place run coming from the 17th starting position.
