Olson gets top ten finish after engine swap at Elma ALK Promotions, July 7
Mitch Olson returned to Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday night and again guided his machine to a top-ten finish in the winged 360 sprint car feature.
Puyallup, Wash.’s Olson, piloting the Mike Olson No. 98m Shark-powered KPC sponsored by SC Fuels, Pro-Vac, Olson Excavating and PRS Group, started ninth in the 30-lap event and ran as high as fifth before finishing ninth at the 3/8-mile, high-banked clay oval in Elma, Wash. His evening, however, was a bit more eventful before that.
Olson, slated to start in the first heat race, suffered problems in his car that relegated him to a last place finish. Worse, an engine change was needed. As other classes raced on the track, Olson’s crew went to work. About 20 minutes later, Olson had a new power plant under the hood and was ready for the feature.
This continues a run of top ten finishes by Olson in the last few weeks, including a tenth place finish a week earlier at Elma and a sixth-place finish at Skagit Speedway in the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.
Olson will return to Elma, a track where he has won before, this weekend for the mid-season championships. Next week, Olson will compete with the ASCS Northwest Region at Elma again when the Evergreen State Sprint Challenge is held. Twice last year Olson was victorious with the ASCS Northwest Region’s predecessor, the Northwest Sprint Challenge Series.
