I was at the All-Star show in 2002. Ex-wife went nuts(I probably drove her to it), had to leave just as they were starting the "A". All around me were veteran fans complaining about the way the show was run. I don't know who promoted it but the show went pretty smooth compared to some fiascos I've seen. This track was once the great rival to OkC.

What do you mean "renovated" I took that picture of the track that you used in your post, there's no "renovation" going on.

If that track was to re-open, I would make the drive there rather than go to SFS.

It's not HOW fast you go, but how you GO fast.

That is my point of the post. Each year people here that Tulsa Speedway is going to reopen or ask if it will ever reopen and your picture is proof that somebody would be crazy to go through the task of getting it race ready.

It is my understanding that the old Muskogee Fairgrounds looks the same, even though Charles Fulton has bought the land from the fairboard and says they will be racing at the old track in 2008.

They need to buy OMS.It's ready for racing and all the stuff at the track goes with it for 1.8 mil.A lot less work instead of the fairgrounds.

God made dirt,man made asphalt.

Yeah there's been a lot of talk about Muskogee opening up. I've only been to OMS once but it was a BEAUTIFUL facility. It's just so sad that the car count went down like it did. That's probably the cleanest local dirt track I've ever been to. You weren't afraid what you might find in the bathrooms.

speaking of bathrooms. God and Satan are watching me take a piss in the handicap stall of the mens restroom at SFS.

The fact thats been there as long as it has makes me wonder if the midget in the golf cart didn't zoom up there and write it himself. thats it..............come friday I'm checkin that golf cart for a magic marker. I will get to the bottom of this.

By the way..........I'm not crazy. just a little sick at the moment. ;)

HEY,

This is a part of the reason for the "Lanny vs. Bud" post. It does not matter if it's a, Race Track or a, Drive-In Theatre. If no one attends, it will become a WEED field.

And YES, at that point we will have to go somewhere else to race.

The 1/2 mile at SFS already looks like that, at this rate it won't take much longer for the weeds to progress into the infield.

Maybe we can start racing our Brush Hogs in the near future. I got a 8 h.p. what you got.

Back in the early-mid 90's,Tulsa Speedway was a weekly trip up the turnpike for me. It was a great way to spend a

Saturday Night even if it was a 1 1/2 to 2 hr trip up there. I won the 50-50 up there one Sat night at a WoO show.Think it was in '90 or '91. Kind of like last Fri night,it started raining right before the "A" for the outlaws and the 50-50 sellers kept selling tickets and it kept raining. finally it let up and the track was repacked, The 50-50 was about $1100. It was so cool cause I had just bought the house I had at the time and needed carpet $$.

Another cool memory I have about Tulsa Speedway was when CRA came through one year I remember Eddie Wirth going off the track between 1& 2 going nearly completely out of sight & coming back up the hill, never missing a beat & maintaining control down the back straight.

Charlies Fried Chicken You could smell it before you entered the gate off 66th St N

Can't think of nothin else right now except that picture sure hurts. And you are right,NW Bill,It looks like OKC's 1/2 mile.

after taking a second look..........I think I can STILL see the the bugs in those trees just waiting for the sun tog o down and some lights to come on so they can terrorize the fans. Man it was so funny watchin my dad (he's a puss) freak out about those bugs.

Although I have to admit they were huge - scientists should have gone out there and documented them - then maybe the racetrack site would have been declared a national preserve and they would need the saturday night race cars to have a reason to turn the big lights on - and draw the big, bugs out. lol. I'm sorry I know none of that makes much sense. I think I have a NyQuil Hangover......

David, it is weird you posted that pic!!! I was coming back from a funeral this morning and decided to jump off the 66th street exit and see how bad it was. Man what a site!!! I too started reminicing about the racing and how good we had it.

Everywhere is weeds!! Behind the grandstands, concession areas, pits, hell even the once gravel parking lots are weeds.

When I was in Knoxville back in June Wayne Johnson told me that he and his car owner (14aj) were wanting to buy the track outright from the lady that owned it. She said she would do a 10 year lease and then see where it was after that. If it was good then she'd do a 99 year lease. They offered her $$$ and she said no so they walked away. Damn shame
