SprintcarPR.com to award Best Looking Car at Gold Cup

By Gary Thomas

August 18, 2007....When the 54th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions goes green on September 5-8 at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway, there will be a new twist added. For years the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa has presented a "Best Looking Car" award. In 2007 for the very first time the Gold Cup Race of Champions in Chico will feature a "Best Looking Car" award and it is being presented by a new website called http://www.SprintcarPR.com

The plan is to have a voting box stationed in the main concession area located behind the grandstands, which allows fans to place their vote for the "Best Looking Car" at this year’s Gold Cup. Once all the votes are tallied, the award will be presented during opening ceremonies on Saturday night. The winner of Best Looking Car will receive $200 from Sprintcarpr.com as well as a trophy from Duane Davis of Laser Engraving located in Iowa. Any additional prizes would certainly be welcomed to award with it to try and grow the bounty.

SprintcarPR.com is the brainchild of John Meirhofer and Richard Day. Meirhofer is the creator and operator of the hugely popular Johns Racing Photos website and Day is a world renowned auto racing journalist that spent many years as the PR director for the World of Outlaws. SprintcarPR.com is an outlet that allows teams to sell their merchandise, market their team through press releases as well as have Hero Cards designed. For all your info on the website visit http://www.sprintcarpr.com

This year’s Gold Cup Race of Champions is shaping up to one of the biggest and best ever as all the top stars are back together under the World of Outlaws Sprint Series banner. Come out and watch some of California’s best including this year’s GSC champ Brent Kaeding, as well as Tim Kaeding, Jonathan Allard, Sean Becker, Jason Statler, Stephen Allard, Brad Sweet and Kyle Hirst take on WOO stars Donny Schatz, Steve Kinser, Joey Saldana, Danny Lasoski, Jac Haudenschild, Jason Meyers, Paul McMahan, defending Gold Cup champ Daryn Pittman and many more. Hopefully there will be a best appearing car for the Gold Cup. This year at the Knoxville Nationals was the first year they did not have the award because there simply wasn't one. Lots of us were talking about this throughout the week and we knew after the Friday show, nobody went out of there way this year and just brought their usual stuff. It was kind of disapointing actually. I'm sure they could of just picked someone but I think they just opted to skip it and just did the best appearing crew award.

Hey, if no one wants to bring a good looking car (?) there are plenty of them here in CA to take Duane's money.  Btw Duane.....nice move....another hundred will be added by HoserVilleCA.

Jac's car was nice and different for him this year. The buzz was that nobody really had anything that knocked the sox off anyone. I have to agree with that. Why they did not have the award? Who knows. Going in they never said there would be a contest this year, we all assumed there would be like always.

Jac's car was AWESOME. Real sharp. Rob Chaney also had a different car for the nationals. Along with I think like 3 or 4 others. I was glad that there wasn't the normal 20 or 30 cheesy cars and a few well done cars. Just well done cars.

The idea behind this award is that the fans will vote for what they feel is the best looking car. There is a guaranteed award on Saturday regardless. I don't beleive that anyone would come out with special paint and graphics for $200 and a trophy but hopefully we can grow the prize money and prestige to a point they do.

I really do hope the idea is popular. A lot of teams put in a lot of time keeping their cars looking good. I think it would be nice for them to be recognized once in awhile. It would be nice to have a little more prize money but I will work on that for next year.

Just 1.5 weeks until GOLD CUP!!!!!

Unfortunately, there was someone in the media who ruined this award a few years ago by stuffing the ballot box. The award hasn't been around the last few years...

Although the media will be more than welcome to vote, the intent is to make this truly a fan choice award. I am not saying it can't happen but hopefully by only having the voting box in the concession area during the active portion of the evening no one will be able to stand there and stuff the box all night.

The plan is not perfect but it is a start. I am sure that the voting may have as much to to with their favorite driver/s as well as how good the car looks. On the other hand we do have some really nice looking cars here in CA.

Also, I want to thank Rich and Hoserville for kicking in an extra $100.

if you think that there won't be any ballot stuffing your goofy.....if you want to stop it from happening.....just give every paying ticket holder a ballot....then NO-ONE can keep filling them out every time they run to the concession stand or potty....does this make sence?....lifes short play hard....( i hate CHEATERS)

Heck- I think the award should go to Robert Bell, I think it takes more for him to actually get numbers and paint on the car than it takes a lot of these teams to buy a wrap from a graphics guru. Or there should just be a Robert Bell award, just so he has enough fuel and tires to get through the week. With the advent of wraps the whole best appearing car deal has lost a lot of meaning. It's hard for a low buck team with limited help to get a good looking car on the track, but most teams have that covered these days.
