Here I am bartending tonight. I am talking to my friend who is a Late Model fan. He points out a guy on the other side of the bar has a 'Big E' shirt on. Keep in mind I am in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Way away from any great dirt tracks. I go over to talk to the guy, cause I get few dirt fans in my bar. Anyway, after talking with him for a bit about Eldora it turns out it is Larry Kemp. The Promoter for Big E.
I just figured it was some guy who was there once and had a Big E shirt on. Nope just so happens in my neck of the woods at that time it was the Promoter. It just weird cause in my fansy bar I hardly ever get Sprint fans let alone the promoter from Eldora.
Anyway, that is my boring story.

I couldn't say anything bad. Believe me I wanted to mention some things about the track. I strayed away from that stuff after I knew who it was. For some reason he thought the racing was better this year at the Royal. I shyed away from that too. My guess is they like the dry lazered off track. Oh, and he said Tony has no plans to buy Hagerstown like rumored.

See the funny part is water was all he drank...He had food and water. Then I threw a bunch of dirt in his hair as he was leaving.

I understand that Larry was one of those responsible for ruining the Hawkeye Downs. Apparently he lobbied to have it paved back in 1988 and was it's first promoter after it was asphalted. He also promoted either Columbus Junction or 34 Raceway for a while, I forget which.

He said he Promoted Osky at one time and Vinton.
If hawkeye doesn't change I think it will get turned back into dirt. Some people have been talking about it. I was at one asphalt sprint race last year and the place would make one heck of a dirt track.

It was one hell of a dirt track. I guess they had some sort of "Wall of Fame" ceremony tonite, Larry must have been back for that. For some reason they inducted Mel Kenyon in tonite. I didn't realize he raced there enough to be considered for the "Wall of Fame"

That must be why. He was in from about 530 to 630. I did ask him to sign my NST shirt and he kinda grinned at me. I just happen to wear it to work and changed into my uniform. Guess Tony was pro NST and he was pro WoO.
Talking to him though did make, me even more, make sure I go and get that Motorsports marketing degree in Terre Haute.

Larry did promote 34 raceways for a few yrs. And i do agree Hawkeye Downs was a awesome dirt track. I used to go to the Yankee and the Miller 100 there. Dam i miss the old days.
