First post, I hope I don't get bashed too bad!

I watched the Nationals Sunday afternoon on Speed and since I was at the Nationals in person I couldn't hear all of the interviews.

Is Joey Saldana a good person? The three times I've seen him finish 2nd at Knoxville he has blamed himself and his crew for not winning instead of giving Donny Schatz any props at all. Is Joey kind of a whiner like that?

Also, is what Kasey and Tony are doing for sprint car racing hurting the sport or helping it?
I think the two car team thing could be a bad idea, especially with the flat out best driver/team right now going to a team that has all of the money and resources it could need. But, the #20 hasn't been a winning car for a few years now so the money and resources must need a driver also! I see Donny as doing this to open more doors. I see him in ARCA or Craftsman or Busch by 2010, maybe I am stupid I don't know. I just hope that sprint car racing doesn't turn out like NASCRAP.

Also, I am not a die hard sprint car fan or anything so I just found out about this Ricky Warner guy. He seems like a pretty smart dude. Does Joey have a chance without him? He seems to be doing alright but we will see.

As long as NASCRAP lets former sprint car guys race at Indy, I will support them. Count on it.

Joey is just trying to be a class act. Most drivers blame the car or the setup. The Saldana name is at least 2 generations deep in the racing world so the shoulders are big enough to take the blame. Shatz got his props when he won.

If you lie awake at night wondering why there aren't enough pats on the backs, you will be too tired to kick ass the next day.

I don't know Joey personally but he is a great guy in my book He sat and talked to my 6 yr old son for more than 5 minutes about everything from his kids to what it is like to drive a sprint car and never once acted like he had something better to do (I'm sure he had plenty of other things to do), he made my kids night. I don't think he was whining after the race, sounded more disappointed than anything to me, but I'm a huge Joey fan now so my rose colored glasses may be obscuring my view.

If they ever make a list of class acts, Joey will be included. I'm a Kinser man myself yet Joey proved to be a class act at Devils Bowl some years back after he won the WoO 2nd night show.

Schatz will be 33 y/o in 2010. In today's racing world, that's way over the hill to learn asphalt racing.

I can't see him doing anything different than what he's doing now for the rest of his career.

You have a point, however, the only exception I can see is Blaney. Though, that was almost a decade ago that he got into Nascar.

want to hear my personal opinion...? Not hiring someone based on age, in any area of racing, is Bull Shit! If someone knows how to race they know how to race. I am not one to dwell on Steve but he is still kicking ass at twice the age as some. Sammy was doing it too. And if Wolfgang was still in working oreder he prolly would be showing moves to people too.

This kind of 'ageism' should have been put to rest with Mark Martin in Nascar. That is like 99% of the reason I cheer for Mark. To prove to these, we need 16-22 year old drivers to win car owners. They think that Viagra chewing, ben gay smelling, republican voting, Matlock watching, get off my side walk old bastards can't still race a car.

On the other hand I don't believe a driver should be judged strictly on their win/loss record. The driver is just one piece of the puzzle. Racing is a team sport. I'm not a big Nascar fan but I'm under the impression that Mark Martin has done quite a bit of winning in the Busch Series and has been extremely competitive in the Cup Series. Dave Blaney was a champion before he even started driving stock cars. He's posted some very respectable finishes in Nascar events and has also had some good runs that were ended early by mechanical failures or getting caught up in 'one of them racing deals'. One of my favorite drivers is Ken Schrader. The fact that he doesn't often run up front has little affect on my opinion of him as a racer. He's won races, as far as I'm aware, in every series he's ever competed in. Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, anyone who's been hired and paid big money to drive a race car is already a winner. WildWillie,

I just got back from an incredible camping trip with my son, and I feel like I never left. There just may be time for one more trip before snow flies.

High Sierra...about 7,700'.  No snow melt, sad, but beautiful, and the fishing was incredible in the rivers.  We didn't even fish the lake.

If you get a chance to hit Edison, Florence or Courtwright, do it!

Hey...what year was your icon pic taken?
