Talkin about that little 5 day Midget Race coming up in Tulsa , as of now got about 125 entries which I would imagine is about 1/2 of the total count by Jan. 5th, have been looking around and seeing Midget Rides for Rent on the Puter for about 3 months now ,which anymore is quite a deal and they are on multiple racing sites, classifieds and message boards and some even make it sound like a business adventure type deal ,Heck it seems one of the few remaining ways you can actually make money at a race or at least pay for your trip to and from the event for a week long stay, see some rides for as little as $2,000 and you pay for tires and anything you tear up, seen a few more for $5,000 tires included for week with a clause for tires (Limited Amt. new) and does not include anything you tear up, seen one $7,500 and entry fee paid , tires (again limited quantity new) and will supply crew for your weeks racing, guess that is added bonus on that deal???, did not say anything about crash deposit or any other clauses, but if you tear up stuff I am sure it will be dealt with then at that point.
I am sure they move right on up the $$$ ladder up into the $10,000 + range for your racing week,I am almost sure that gets you a top of the line Spike/Esslinger engine and all the fixins to go with it Tires, experienced crew and crew chief and you can be Bryan Clauson or Kyle Larson or Dave Darlands or Jerry Coon Jr. teammate , really I bet your just helping pay for all your famous teammates hotel/food/fun bills for the week.
When Robin Miller of Speed Channel says The Chili Bowl one of the top 5 races in the world , I believe it and I guess that bring along the $$$$$ end of it as well like Nascar and Indy Car , but this is just for a week and NOT a season.
To me it is a great race and in a unique situation of indoor facility in dead middle of winter and all the talent in the race world from all kinds of racing is there.
I just wish I had gotten in on the ground floor and of Midget ownership and got me several Midgets say 8-10 yrs. ago , could have made enough on Rentals to pay some bills to begin the new year with and maybe even raced my 2 Bar. for the season locally, IF the rental business is good, really is amazing how drivers will pay that much $$$$ to enter and run in this race for at most 2 nights of racing and a night of Hot Lapping, guess that is how you gain fame quickly and move up the ladder IF and I say IF you did well in the Chili Bowl but with 250 of your friends there to compete for the same thing , gotta make it be some tough odds to succeed , but seems it happens about every year at this time. Money for a Ride in the Chili Bowl.
