Dear Friends of Racing From the Past,

We lost one of the great personalities of racing in our area last nite. Tom Davey,

former racer in clubs that included the RMMRA Midget Club, and the BCRA

Sprint Car Club, passed away after battling cancer and heart problems.

Tom started in racing as a midget driver in the 1950's around Denver, Colorado.

TD also raced Sprint Cars at tracks that included the Belleville Highbanks.

Early on Tom also found a passion for writing about races in the Rocky Mountain

region for National Speed Sport News. His column would later be taken over

by Bill Hill, and would be known as "Hill on Wheels". For the last thirty years

Tom, and his best friend Jerry Miller attended every Belleville Midget Nationals,

as well as several Chili Bowls, and races in clubs that included USAC, SMRS,

MARA, RMMRA, SWIMS, and POWER-I. The "Tom and Jerry Show" would

write and take pictures for NSSN, and Open Wheel Magazine among others,

for these events. Over the last decade Tom and Jerry were honoured with their

induction into the Belleville Highbanks Hall Of Fame, as well as Tom being

inducted into the BCRA Hall Of Fame. Recently, Tom was able to enjoy a visit

by many of his racing friends that he made over the years. I have heard from

Tom's son Mike Davey, and Jerry Miller, that he really enjoyed receiving the

cards and letters that so many of you sent in the racing community over the last few weeks.

RIP Tom, you were a great friend to the racing community, and a true gentleman.

Ray Cunningham
