Cody Morris, HUMBOLDT, KANSAS (8-19-2011) - The Lucas Oil ASCS EcoTec Midgets made their first foray into the Sunflower State with a Friday night showing at Humboldt Speedway.
Advancing from his outside 2nd row starting spot, Sapulpa, Oklahoma's reigning 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw Champion and 2011 Tulsa Shootout Outlaw Sweeper, Blake Hahn shot by Bixby, Oklahoma's polesitter Kevin Bayer at the midway point of the 20 lap affair.
Hahn would survive a late caution flag and take his 1st Lucas Oil ASCS triumph of the 2011 campaign aboard the Speedway Vending, Metric Cycles, XXX Race Co., Hoosier Tire, LaJoie Seating, and Tel Star Communications sponsored no. 52. It would be Hahn's second career Lucas Oil ASCS Midget score following a Cowtown Speedway victory last November.
Also a Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw Champion (2009), Kevin Bayer would take runner up honors aboard Eric and Jessica Fenton's Southside Mowers, Maruyama Power Equipment, Revolition Racing Engines, and Fenton Graphics sponsored no. 72k.
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native and proud owner of a slew of Tulsa Shootout Golden Drillers, Donnie Ray Crawford continues to show his well proven versatility, taking show position honors in the Hahn Racing no. 29 XXX machine.
Fellow Broken Arrow native Colton Brewer crossed the stripe fourth aboard the no. 77 Hampton KustomWorks entry, with Collinsville, Oklahoma's Layne Heimbaugh completing the tip 5 running order aboard the Tom Lorenz owned Smiley's no. 84 entry.
Bayer topped heat race action over the 8 car field, while Hahn outlasted Collinsville, Oklahoma's accomplished sprint car veteran Brian McClelland in qualifier action.
In a slight hint of irony, Blake Hahn will shift from Lucas Oil ASCS EcoTec Midget action to pilot Mike McClelland's no. 87 ASCS sprint car, normally driven by Brian McClelland, for Saturday night's American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region outing at Lawton Speedway. Brian McClelland will be piloting the Ronnie Davis' familiar Wichita Falls, Texas based no. 25 for the winged ASCS sprint car event.
The Lucas Oil ASCS EcoTec Midgets will finish out the weekend with a Saturday night stop at South Coffeyville, Oklahoma's Mid America Speedway. The event marks the first Lucas Oil ASCS EcoTec Midget event at the slightly banked 1/3 mile oval.
