I remember working in gas stations in the early 70's. I remember the gas wars. The lowest I can remember is .11 cents a gallon in Hutchinson, KS. Albeit we had many more brands, Champlin, Apco, Fina, Derby, Sinclair, DX, Bay, Phillips 66, Conoco, Vickers etc.

I work at a small refinery and 2/3rds of the oil there comes from Kansas producers.

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth P.E. offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action.
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas .

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.08 at Arco and Costco for regular unleaded in Salem, Oregon and climbing every week.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need
to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that Without hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, Don't purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies, Exxon/Mobil or Conoco/Phillips.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

You have only the rights you are willing to fight for!

Go to natural gas too, (CNG). Less corrosive on the system, and right now about $1.57 a gallon equivilant to gasoline.

There turned out to be nothing gained from inserting ethanol into the infrastructure- regardless what they tell you. It's really quite a waste for the man on the street in the end and a way for the oil co.s to get richer by dangling a false hope to us until gas prices go back down.

Food prices are already going up anyway, growing and burning corn based ethanol will only accelerate the price increases.

BUT ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, WE AMERICANS WILL FIND IT EASIER TO GO ON A DIET WHEN THE PRICES GET OUT OF REACH. a positive way to look at it i guess.

Natural gas goes right up alongside liquid petroleum, always has, always will.

It cost more in energy to make the ethanol from what I've heard than we get in return. Then it is subsidized by states and the feds.

Most people do not know how the fuel supply system works today. Even BP and Conoco retail stations do not know who refined the fuel that they are selling. The bulk tank distribution centers put a call out for fuel that they need. The fuel could come from any number of different oil refinery companies. If one lives near one of these bulk tank farms, just go watch whos trucks pull in and get in line. Mobil was the last in our area to have their own tank farm and it has been torn down for about two decades.

Now for the naturel gas. Halliburtin has been fracting in Arizona using a special chemical mixture. One of the news programs did a show on this. Some of the chemicals they are using can not even be identified but they are toxic to humans. The one chemical that was identified was desiel fuel but they claimed it was only one percent of the mix and it was legal to use that way. The amount is only ten thousand gallons per batch. They also say the unknown chemicals are covered by patent rights. Now in the area where they used this stuff no water can be used for human or animals for over a fourty plus diameter. One can thank president bush for he singed the bill that he had rewrote to allow this mixture to be used. Where else has this poison been used.

My twin brother, Roger, has severe health problems because of agent orange. He is currently stable as per the cancers but his heart is damaged. He was stationed in CamRahn Bay as a ward master in the hospital there. I guess the whole area was saturated with AO and it was in the sand. He is getting 100% disability from the government. As well he should. He has often helped others with similar problems as per the VA.

I know we are getting off the subject of good old time racing but Ii was with the 1st Cavalry Division in the central highlands from 1967-1968. According to reports that was the highest time and area they sprayed agent orange. What years did your brother serve over there? I processed in and out at Cam Rah Bay, I do remember it was all sand. I do hope your brother will improve with his health. Tell your brother what all us Nam Vets say to each other "Welcome Home Brother". He will know what I mean.

Mike

If you would like to contact him his E is [email protected]. He keeps up with a couple Viet Vet groups and was on the board of directors of the Viet Nam Veteran Oregon Memorial Fund for the Vet Memoral in Portland, Oregon. He lives in Albany, Oregon. I know this is a racing site but many war heros come from our era and people. We are from Kansas but lived in Utah about 10 years and lost our jobs last year. We now live in Guthrie, OK which is near our son and nearer my mother. Thank you for your kind remarks

Is a good website to check gas prices in your zip code area. It has been helpful for me to select stations that are selling gas at lower prices. If everyone would go to the locations with lower prices perhaps this would encourage stations to be conservative in their prices?

The refinery I work at gets 2/3rds of its oil from Kansas producers. It is approximately a 85,000 barrel a day. A barrel is 42 gallons. Some of the big refineries on the gulf coast are up wards to 500,000 barrels a day.

I already try to buy at some of the lower priced stations. The next time you drive around your town look at the pricing. Go to a section of town that has a high minority population or even near the main highways. The prices can be five to ten cents a gallon more. One of the main culprites in this area is a fast food store that also has grocery stores that is based from Kansas. That is even using the same company station. So when traveling one needs to take a small deture off the highway. Even the main drag will have lower prices. Some radio stations also have morning cheap price reports.
