I spent every Saturday night at Tulsa Speedway from 1969 unyil I entered the service in 1976. Ended up in South Carolina busy raising families and such. Woke up the other morning with Emmett Hahn's name on my mind. Entered it in the Google bar and have been awash with memories ever since. The website is so awesome. I miss those screaming cars and the larger than life men that wheeled them around the dirt.
Odell Anderson and his fuzzy paintjob. Odell never finished well, but he always washed his car near my house. I would go down and help him just to listen to him talk about the race.
Getting hit with a dirtclod in turn one. Going to the hospital for a couple of stitches and meeting Mike Jimerson recovering from a fiery crash.
That screaming orange car that Jackie Howerton drove that had the same number as the radio station that he drove for.
The cool blue super modified that Buddy Cagle drove. Don't know what it was about that car, but man it was cool.
Charlie Wells climbing the flagstand after he was black flagged.. And Charlie was not a small man!!! I believe I would have jumped out of the stand!!
Anyway, I thought I may post and spend some time here if ya'll will have me.
Thanks
Randy
