Goodman Scores Convincing Win at Outlaw
by John Rittenoure
MUSKOGEE,
Oklahoma (September 10, 2010) – Mike
Goodman holds the record for sprint car victories at Outlaw
Motor Speedway. The closest rival to his nine career wins is
Jamie Passmore with six. Make that ten now as Goodman reset that
record with a dominating performance in the OCRS
25-lap main event on Friday night.
The former OCRS champion drove off the pole and quickly put
distance between himself and the rest of the field. Goodman led
all 25 laps lapping his way up to the eighth place car and his third
victory of the season.
Goodman felt starting on the pole was a big key to his victory
on the dry track surface.
"Of course it is an advantage to start up
front like that," said Goodman afterwards. "I hope it was not
too boring, we hate to just run off with it, but of course we
will take it.
"We have been fighting this new car and Matt Thomason has been
working hard at this thing. I think we got it going our way
now."
That was evident. Goodman
seemed able to drive anywhere on the track but he felt dusting
off the wall would be the place race on the high banked 3/8's
mile oval.
"It was not too forgiving," said Goodman of the track. "I think
I knocked every piece of paint off the wall in both corners.
"We have won a lot of races here and I love this track. I like
the way this track races and I kind of knew it would be up high.
But I got around the bottom good with some lapped traffic and I
think I could have run down there."
The only worry Goodman had
was a broken suspension part early in the race that could have
ended his night quickly.
"I broke a piece of Jacob Ladder suspension on the rear early in
the race and I thought it would hurt me big time," Goodman said.
"But we held up there and fought it off. It turned out ok."
The race was yellow flag free and David
Stephenson ran second early as Goodman shot to a straightaway
lead in only four laps. On lap 14 Kyle Clark powered by
Stephenson for second followed Danny Smith in third. Shayla
Waddell also got by dropping Stephenson to fifth. Clark, Smith,
Waddell and Stephenson held on to second through fifth for the
remainder of the race. Series points leader Jamie Passmore was
unable to advance on the leaders and finished sixth.
Billy Frazier led the last chance qualifiers
in the B main to earn the seventeenth starting position. Frazier
won over Michael Smith, Terry Easum and Kevin Cummings. All
transferred to the feature where Frazier advanced to an eighth
place finish behind seventh place Rafe Essary.
The OCRS returns to Oklahoma Sports Park in
Ada
next Saturday, September 18.
