Passmore Cruises To Mid America Win

By: John Lemon

South Coffeyville Oklahoma (August 4, 2010) – Labor Day is a time to enjoy summers last official holiday by relaxing and simply enjoying some time doing what one chooses to do. Tonight, at the Mid-America Speedway, Rose Oklahoma’s Jamie Passmore didn’t break a sweat in collecting his eighth win of the season in the Oil Capital Racing Series sprint car competition. Passmore has now won three in a row and four of the last five A Features contested.

Passmore shot out into the lead as pole position driver Brady Demeree tucked in behind for the second spot. Terry Easum, Mike Goodman and Danny Smith would follow closely. Just as Passmore was about to enter lapped traffic, the race would go yellow on lap six when Bristow’s Tim Kent came to a stop in turn two. After another lap was completed, the yellow came out again for Smith who was stalled in turn four in his Same Day Auto Repair machine.

Back under green, Passmore and Goodman along with Demeree in tow, would begin to separate themselves from the group. Another few laps passed, and on lap eleven the red came out for a series of hard flips by Chris Pillars. He was a little shaken but otherwise OK. The restart would have Passmore in command in the #4j G.A.P. Roofing special with Demeree next in the “Cash For Cars” #15d followed by Goodman in the home base car of Mid-America Speedway, Easum and Rafe Essary would be the top five. Shayla Waddell was moving up the chain in the Shores-Sentry, Production Engine, Red Rock Distributing, #88s mount as she started 16th and was moving to the front of the field as she now sat in eighth spot.

Waddell passed two more cars to make it to 6th. Smith got back by Waddell for a position on lap 12. Waddell would fight right back and pass two more competitors to regain the spots she vacated. Passmore would cruise on home and collect another trophy for his large collection. Goodman held second with Demeree equaling his best finish in 3rd and Easum held onto fourth with Waddell fifth, tying her best finish of the year.

Quotes:

Passmore: “I got lucky and got to start up in front. The track took rubber right off the bat. From the first lap there was rubber down.” When asked if he could hear when Goodman did get close, Passmore replied: “No I didn’t. When you have that many lapped cars (in the mix) you don’t know if its them or the others (lead lap cars).

Goodman: “I had a lot of problems with lapped traffic. I think I was kind of gaining some ground there but on these types of tracks (rubbered down) he (Passmore) would have had to have some type of disadvantage in traffic for me to get by him. I felt like I had a really good car. I wasn’t fighting my car thought he corners. I couldn’t tell if he was or not but I was gaining some ground lapped traffic just hung us up there.”

Demeree: “We used the same set up as before and I went over to talk to Jamie (Passmore) about the stagger some and he was a lot of help on that, mainly on advice. After the first restart, I tried to see what I had (power and handling) I think we were a little faster than Jamie but we had such a hard compound of tire on the right front that once it cooled down, it wouldn’t grip.”

Waddell: “My car was getting real tight coming out of the corners and with about 5 (laps) to go, I was really wanting to see that white flag come out cause it was getting hard to handle, especially in turn four, it got real tough over there. I just stayed in it and went in real hard and it ended working out OK.”

The next events for the OCRS sprint cars is a double header feature. Friday night, OCRS will make their final appearance at the Outlaw Motor Speedway. Then on Saturday, OCRS will be onward to West Siloam Speedway.
