“Razorback Nationals” Goes To Passmore
By: John Lemon
Pocola, Oklahoma (August 28, 2010) – Jamie
Passmore is like a streaking comet. The current Oil Capital Racing Series points leader streaked his way to his
third win in the past four outings on the OCRS 2010 sprint car tour by taking
the inaugural running of the “Razorback
Nationals” at Pocola’s Tri-State Speedway
tonight.
David
Stephenson of Porter Oklahoma started the main event from the pole in his
new F5 Twister chassis mount and took the lead from the outset. Passmore kept
Stephenson in check by sitting in the second position in his G.A.P. Roofing / Wesmar powered Eagle chassis machine. Travis ‘Hollywood’ Jenkins. In his Premier Homes / Mid-America Speedway
#4pm Maxim car, trailed the top two in third while Bristow’s Tim Kent, Tulsa’s
Mike Goodman and Oklahoma City favorite, Ms. Shayla Waddell, all following
closely behind.
On the third lap, OCRS Brodix Cylinder Heads / Broken Arrow Lawn and Garden rookie of the year contender, Brady Demeree, worked his way by Ms. Waddell for the sixth position
in his “Cash For Cars” sponsored
J&J sprinter. The battle for the top spot got hot and heavy as Passmore got
within mere inches from Stephenson’s backside on lap eight and the two were
seemingly inseparable for a spell as heavy traffic loomed ahead. Passmore would
make what would be the winning move when he managed to slip by Stephenson on
the backstretch of lap twelve. “If he (Stephenson) would of chose to stay in
the rubber I don’t know if I could of got by him, but when he chose to go
around the lapped cars, he got out of the rubber and I stayed in the rubber and
I passed him” explained Passmore of his move to the lead.
Lap 15 would see Jenkins get by Stephenson for second
and two drivers, who were back marker starters, were beginning to garner some
attention. Inola’s Terry Easum started
in the 16th position and was now up to seventh in his Ameri Cash Advance /J&J chassis and Wesmar powerplant. Danny Smith started dead last after a
tire let him down in his heat race and moved into the top ten. The pilot of the
Same Day Auto Repair and Triple XXX framed
mount was looking for more game. Further up front, Kent also found his way past
Stephenson to place himself in the third spot.
The leaders
would encounter lapped traffic again a couple of laps later where a yellow flag
would pause what had been a non stop affair due to a spin by Goodman in turn
one. Goodman would restart at the rear. While still rolling around under
yellow, Kent would suffer misfortune when his CMC chassis / Melly Roo and
Kent Construction #79 spewed water down the front straight and had to
retire from the race. The restart would see Passmore at the point then Jenkins,
Stephenson, Demeree, Easum, Waddell, Billy
Frazier (who was making another run while daughter Kacee is still
recovering from an earlier injury in the Wesmar
/ O’Reilly’s / Kiezer Wheels J&J), and D. Smith.
The race would go back to green and Stephenson would
reclaim second from Jenkins then a lap later, the amber cloth would fly once
again when first time OCRS starter Michael
Smith spun in turn two. This was Smith’s first time to race with a wing as
his past experience has been with the wingless variety in California and
Arizona. D. Smith would pass a few more soon after the restart to take the
fifth spot. Demeree would take the third position from Jenkins on the backstretch
in what would become his best finish of the season. Stephenson would sit on
Passmore’s rear bumper but unable to make a pass on the leader. “He (Passmore) was
in the rubber and just too fast” said the runner up. “I just have to thank Wayne Simmons (car builder) and his
guys. They do all the work”.
Demeree was pleased with his outcome with his third
place showing. “Patience. Just letting the car roll into the corner and wait
for everyone to slide up (out of the groove).” We just pretty much did the same
set up at Thunderbird (last week). About the third or fourth lap I thought I
had a good car. I passed a few cars (early). I had a good feeling going into
the race (about the car’s set up).”
Passmore, Stephenson and Demeree were followed across
the line by Jenkins and D. Smith. The balance of the top ten were: Easum, Rafe Essary, Waddell, Goodman and Kyle Clark.
The next event for the OCRS warriors is next Saturday
at the Mid-America Speedplant where the OCRS sprinters
will compete in a Labor Day holiday showdown.
