Passmore Rides Hot
Streak To Another Victory
By:
John Lemon
South Coffeyville, Oklahoma (July 31, 2010)
– Jamie Passmore is on a hot streak and
on Saturday
night at the Mid-America Speedway,
the Oil Capital Racing Series
sprint car
points leader gave the competition all the heat they could handle by
winning
his third main event in the last five outings in his G.A.P. Roofing / Wesmar
powered Eagle sprinter.
2010 Brodix Cylinder Heads / Broken Arrow Lawn and
Garden rookie of the year contender Brady Demeree lead the field into turn one
at the drop of the green
flag with Matt Sherrell
and last nights winner, Danny
Smith nipping at Demeree’s rear bumper. As the trio swept through
and out of
turn two, Sherrell, in the Don and Pat
Carrens / Sherrell Auto Body
#35 mount,
overtook Demeree and Smith followed suit in his Same Day Auto Repair number 5$
XXX chassis. They would cross the stripe 1-2-3 in that order to complete
the
races first lap with Passmore, in the red and white #4J, Tim Kent in the #79
MellyRoo / Kent Construction car
and Mike Goodman in the #4am Premier Homes /
Mid-America Speedway special
next in line.
Kent would work his way into third place
a couple of laps
later. Passmore worked pass Demeree for fourth on the fifth circuit
while
another OCRS rookie of the year contender, Terry Easum, began to put pressure
on Goodman from his eighth place slot. A yellow flag would slow things
down
when Kevin Cummings spun to a
stop in turn one. The race was hardly back under
way when Shayla Waddell spun to a
stop her self in turn one. When racing did
resume, Sherrell held strong on the point with Smith, Passmore, Kent,
and
Goodman chasing.
For the next few laps, Sherrell had the lead at hand
while Smith, Passmore, Kent and Goodman had the crowd enthralled with
their tight
knit battle for position. Goodman would squeak past Kent on lap 12 while
Passmore took
second from Smith on the same lap. Passmore would make what would be the
winning move when he disposed of Sherrell in turn three of the
thirteenth lap.
Two laps later, Kent would execute a lazy half spin in turn one without
stopping. However, Easum made it by as did Rafe Essary who now was running
sixth from his fourteenth starting position after changing motors before
the
feature race.
Goodman kept the march forward going by
overtaking
Sherrell in turn one of the 17th lap and began setting his
sights on
Passmore. Easum, in what was to be one of his finest runs in his brief
career,
slid into the third place position behind Goodman. The rest of the laps
were
status quo as Passmore held onto the win for his fifth win of the year.
“I
didn’t think running the middle of the track would work but it sure did
work
and we just got lucky,” said Passmore. When asked if there was a moment
when he
(Passmore) knew he was going to win it, the two time defending champion
replied
“No, not really. Sherrell, well he didn’t know where the fast part of
the track
was. That’s just the bad part about leading it (the race), you’re just a
sitting duck and it could have been me just as well” (getting passed for
the lead).
Goodman almost ran the first half of the
race without
making a move forward. From that point on, Goodman was a man on the
move. “When
you start that deep, you just have to be a little patient sometimes”
explained
the former OCRS champion. “My car is set up for a long run and it came
in a
little bit better as well. My car was really good in the middle of the
track. It
laid in and that’s what we set it up to be. I knew it would be there
late and
if we could get through the middle, we would have a shot at it (the
win). I
think we had a shot, we didn’t catch lapped traffic quick enough but
when we
got to lapped traffic I think I could of gave him a little more of a
race
there.”
Easum equaled his best OCRS feature
finish with a
third place showing in the Ameri Cash
Advance / Wesmar powered
J&J chassis.
“We had some different help (Scott
Thomason as crew chief), tried some
different things with the car and we just needed a yellow there at the
end then
I think we could of got a few more cars” said a happy Easum. Sherrell
was fourth
followed by Smith for final top five spot. Rounding out the top ten was:
Essary,
Kent, Travis “Hollywood” Jenkins, Fred Mattox and
Demeree.
The Oil
Capital Racing Series will be in action
once again on August 14th at the Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Oklahoma.
