Passmore Beats Rain, Earns 4th Feature Win at Outlaw

by John Rittenoure

MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma (July 16, 2010) Jamie Passmore outran the rain and everyone else to win the OCRS feature and widen his series points lead Friday night at Outlaw Motor Speedway.

With lightening dancing in the sky and rain rapidly approaching the Muskogee area the feature event was hurriedly moved up to the first event after intermission. And Passmore did his part running like rain leading all 20 laps to win his fourth main event of the season and open up an 81 points cushion over points runner-up Rafe Essary.

Passmore lined up outside pole sitter Travis Jenkins for the start and quickly shot into the lead on the opening lap. Matt Sherrell passed Jenkins in turn one of lap two for second and set his sights on Passmore. But on lap seven Sherrell tangled with another car and got into the backstretch wall out of turn two bringing out the first yellow of the race. Sherrell was able to restart with Whit Gastineau taking up the chase of Passmore. Mike Goodman was close behind in third.

On lap 13 Kyle Clark and Kirby Bedford tangled in front of the leaders going into turn three. Passmore and Gastineau managed to avoid contact as the yellow came out for the second time.

When the race restarted Goodman made a slingshot pass around Gastineau in turn one for second. One more yellow waved on lap 15 for David Stephenson who spun in turn three. Passmore resumed his lead for the final five laps without a challenge from Goodman. Sherrell, who restarted on the rear, worked his way through the field and passed Gastineau for third in the closing laps. Danny Smith finished fifth behind fourth place Gastineau.

The OCRS travels to West Siloam Speedway next Saturday, July 24, for race number 12 on the 25-event schedule.
