Bergman to chase the NSCS championship

SNOHOMISH, Wash. – One of Seth Bergman's goals is to get a lot of track time. Then there's his hope to win the inaugural Northwest Sprint Challenge Series championship.
Winning the NSCS championship is a big task for someone only entering his second season in a 360 sprint car. There are many around the Northwest, however, who feel it is unwise to count out the 19-year Snohomish, Washington resident.
It's really not out of the question either. Though Danny Horner is a little older and more experienced than Bergman, Horner won the final Northern Sprint Tour championship in 2006 after taking Rookie of the Year honors the year before. Being last year's NST Rookie of the Year, Bergman hopes to pull the same trick in the NSCS's first season.
Bergman made his presence felt last July 24 at Southern Oregon Speedway when he finished third behind Horner and Roger Crockett in the NST's Speed Week opener. More strong finishes came his way, finishing second to Travis Rutz in Skagit's 360 Nationals and second to Rutz again at the Kasey Kahne Foundation event at Skagit. Bergman also picked up a second place finish behind Henry Van Dam at the pre-National Sprint Tour race at Grays Harbor Raceway.
People were soon expecting to see Bergman in victory lane. Bergman delivered on September 16, scoring that first win in convincing fashion at the Northern Sprint Tour's stop at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon.
"The first win was pretty big." Bergman commented. "We worked really hard. When we started getting strong finishes we wanted to get that first win. The hard work paid off when it happened."
The news of Bergman's triumph down south was welcomed news to family, friends, and fans back home in Washington. He was already noticed by the Northwest sprint car scene, but with that win Seth Bergman had officially "arrived."
Bergman capped off the NST season with a ninth place finish at Central Washington State Fair Raceway in Yakima, Wash. and finished a very respectable sixth in the final NST point standings.
Before first climbing into the 360 sprint car, Bergman previously drove a 250cc micro-sprint, winning eight main events between 2003 and 2004, including the Northwest Clay Cup Nationals at Deming Speedway. He then climbed into a sportsman sprint in 2005 and won three main events at Skagit Speedway en route to Rookie of the Year honors in that class. Bergman has been racing for 13 years.
The strong run over the latter half of the 2006 season has Bergman looking to do even better this season. In 2007, Seth will continue driving for his father Steve Bergman aboard the Corridor Electric and Powder Coating Inc.-sponsored #23 Eagle, powered by an ASCS-legal Whitman engine. Bergman will run several other events in addition to the NSCS, expecting to run at Skagit and Elma and potentially traveling to California to race. The additional seat time will only help the rising star.
"The first win, it felt good," and excited Bergman said. "It made me want to win more this year."
