Passmore Captures First Victory Of 2009

Tulsa, Oklahoma (September 27, 2009)

Defending Oil Capital Racing Series champion Jamie Passmore inherited the lead in Saturday nights A feature at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville when race leader Earl McDoulett spun to a stop in turn four on lap 15 of the 25 lap affair. The win marked Passmore's first victory of 2009 with OCRS. With Passmore's triumph, OCRS events have produced an astonishing 8 different main event winners in just 12 events making for one of the most competitive sprint car series anywhere.

Mc Doulette earned the right to start on the pole position by virtue of his victory in the Same Day Auto Repair "Dash for Cash" event contested earlier in the program in his bright red #60 Mingo Salvage machine. After a false start on the first attempt to start the main even, McDoulett out dragged Passmore in his GAP Roofing #4j to the take the opening lead with Danny Smith, Rafe Essary and Fred Mattox all in tow. On the next circuit, Mattox would slip back to seventh as Travis Jenkins and Danny Shouse would work their way past. The lap after that would see Jenkins fall back to eighth, Shouse to fifth and Mid-America's Fourth of July victor Matt Sherrell in seventh.Sherrell would then overtake Mattox for sixth on the next go around.

On a track that was dry slick yet passable, positions would change at any given moment. Some passes were made that were not reflected in the official scoring as once a pass was made on a given lap, that position would change back by the time the combatants would return to the start/finish line. A yellow would fall on lap eight when Andrew Deal would come to a stop in turn number four. The race was only three laps back in from the restart when Jenkins would clip a tire in turn four and execute a flip. Jenkins was uninjured in the accident. The restart would see McDoulett still in command with Passmore, Smith, Shouse, Essary, Sherrell, Evan Sewell (Opening OCRS season victor at Mid-America), Mattox and sixth row starter Jonathan Beason in order. On the drop of the green to restart the race, Beason was making his moves. In the next couple of circuits, Beason would work his way into the fifth spot as he was in an intense wheel to wheel contest with Sherrell for the five hole.

McDoulette was exiting turn three and entering turn four on the 15th lap when his mount would loose traction and he would spin to a stop to the amazement of onlookers. No one could of been more surprised than Passmore as he now became the race leader. Beason and Sherrell would work their way past Shouse on the next restart while Passmore began to put just enough of a distance between himself and second place Smith to have a little breathing room. Shouse would get back by Sherrell on lap 21 to regain the fifth spot. Passmore clicked off the last few laps with precision and took the checkers ahead of Smith, Essary, Beason and Shouse. The remaining top ten were Sherrell, Mattox, Tim Kent (who battled engine owes throughout the night), Waylon Weaver and Brian Roberts.

Kent took the win in the 12 lap B feature followed by Drake Jr, Weaver and Roberts. All of which earned transfers into the A Feature event.

The OCRS sprint cars will now move on to the historic 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday night October 3rd. This will mark the first time OCRS has competed at 81 Speedway in their tenure.
