Habitat for Humanity is having a fundraiser May 4th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at El Chico's resteraunt in Central Mall. All you have to do is let the girls or guys at the door know you are there for the Habitat Fundraiser and SIGN IN each person in your party. Habitat then will recieve 10% of your meal cost. PLEASE make sure you SIGN IN for Habitat or they won't get the 10% from your meal.

A bit about Habitat for Humanity. I always thought they gave the houses away. No they do not. Low income familes apply for help getting into a new house. Hand up instead of a hand out. Habitat will then go through the applications and select a family that meet the requirements. Yes they have requirements to meet. Habitat helps lower the building cost buy getting material donations and labor donations. Of course free labor is easy to get, but the material they usually have to purchase most of. They also help pay for closing cost, ect. The family that recieves the house must put in a certain amout of sweat equity hours for Habitat so they don't get to just sit around and do nothing. They must also have a steady work history. The big winner that most people do not know, is Habitat just doesn't give the house to them. They have a mortgage they have to pay. The houses are not free. Habitat also goes a bit beyond. They also teach the families responibilities such as budgeting, taking care of the property, ect. and check in with the families peroidically to make sure they are still on track for a few years or as long as they need. Habitat would build more houses if they had the funding. Donations is the best help they can get and we would love to see you there!
