Man, do I wish I woke up in Tulsa this morning and ate breakfast at the Tusla Expo Hall! Sad Maybe next year... Rolling Eyes

In the L features -- which should be starting very soon...

Channin Zieroff of Houma, Louisiana! Channin apparently qualified 280th out of the record 281 entries at the Chili Bowl this year but hey, at least the Louisiana flag gets carried out tonight!!!

Also watching Oklahoma Modified ace Randy Timms and two former ASCS Champions -- Arkansas's Tim Crawley and Kansan Gary Lee Maier. Them boys got some serious "Alphabet Soup" to wade through if they're going to make the A-main this year!

In the K features...

The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma mini-sprint ace Kevin Bayer and Kaufman, Texas open wheel veteran Johnny Murdock.

In the J features...

Modfied racers Eddie Martin of Stilwell, Oklahoma and George White of Fort Worth! Those two have battled each other many times in Mods and they'll do it again in the 2nd J feature. Both had at least one USMTS Southern Series win last year. Also, Conroe, Texas SSMA Midget racer Aaron Kirk.

In the I features...

A couple of northwest Arkansas guys: OCRS Sprint Car regular Rafe Essary of Fayetteville and Van Buren Modified racer Larry Campbell.

In the H features...

Arkansas Sprint Car racer Eric Sandage and Kansas NCRA Modified ace Marc Robe. Unfortunately, Tim McCreadie was also scheduled to be in a H feature but broke his back earlier in the week. Get well fast Tim!

In the G features...

One of the Okie super kids -- Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow -- has a long way to go this year as he runs the first G. Also watching a pair of Texans: Former ASCS Gulf South Champion Sprint Car racer and a Late Model pilot as well, Jerry Bell of Sachse and Justin Melton of Flower Mound representin' DFW.

In the F features...

The veteran Shane Carson of Yukon, Oklahoma who raced with us at Ark-La-Tex last year in a Sprint Series of Texas event is in the first F while former USAC Silver Bullett Champion and the 5th place finisher from the USMTS Southern Series Modifieds in 2008, Paul White of Temple, Texas is in the second one.

In the E features...

ASCS star Nick Smith from (where else?) Broken Arrow is in the middle of a very diverse field of midget drivers in the first E. That race has 3 Californians, 2 Arizona racers, a Washington State racer, a Kansan, a 2nd Generation New Jeresy driver Billy Pauch, Jr. (I used to watch his dad race when I was a kid), and a West Virginia driver in it and this year, it's not Kid Rocket. Derek Hagar of Marion, Arkansas is in the 2nd E.

In the D features...

Kevin Swindell of Germantown, Tennessee will try and join his famous father in the A main again but he has to start out in the D this year and joining him the first D is another former ASCS champ, Wayne Johnson of OKC. The Missouri kid, Hunter Schuerenberg from Sikeston is in the second D and Michell Decker from Guthrie, Oklahoma is also in that race.

In the C features...

Some NASCAR names to watch: Kasey Kahne is in the first one along with Bryan Clauson and how 'bout this name trying to resurrect himself from the banished -- Shane Hmiel in the 2nd C.

In the B features...

Just one race away from the big show are three of the Oklahoma super kids including Trey Robb of Newcastle, Dustin Morgan of Collinsville and Donnie Ray Crawford (top 5 in last year's Chili Bowl) of Tulsa. Indiana's former UMP Modified star, Shane "The Throttle" Cottle is on the pole of the first B with former ASCS star and current WoO star Darryn Pittman -- another home stater -- on the pole of the second one. Multi-time ASCS Champ Gary Wright -- represntin' the Ark-La-Tex from out of Hooks, Texas, Tulsa veteran Mike Goodman and "The Dude", Missouri's Danny Lasoski are also in the first B while former ASCS Sooner champion Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth gets to battle with Terry McCarl, Chad Kenemah and others in the 2nd one.

In the A main...

Already in the show is Sammy Swindell going for Chili Bowl #5 from the second row!!! Gotta like a couple of ARCA guys though -- both with dirt track experience too: The lone Mississippi representitive and the second Memphis-area racer already in the A, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. of Olive Branch (row 4) and I really like the versatility that young Illinois racer (now out of North Carolina) Justin Allgaier (who I met at a Chili Bowl a couple of years ago) has shown in his career thus far. (3rd place in last year's Chili Bowl!

Soup's Up!!! Let's race!!!

The big night at the Chili Bowl has come and gone and Sammy did it again! Number FIVE! I listened in on Racinboys.com. Swindell had slid back as far as 5th at one point before rallying back for the win.

But they started with L features. The lone Louisiana racer -- Channing Zierolf -- missed advancing to a K feature by one spot. Maier & Timms never started their Ls. Must have had tore up midgets from earlier in the week. Crawley made it to a K but that was it.

Bayer won his K and then scored a 2nd and a 3rd while working his way forward to an H main where his run ended with a 7th. Martin got to race in 3 more Chili Bowl features as he advanced from the J to the H where his run ended with a 7th too. The other Modified racers -- G. White, Campbell, Robe and P. White failed to advance as did Sandage and Melton and Bell was another DNS.

Bacon made a decent run after winning his G main and advancing to 4th in his F and to 6th in the E where he fell 2 spots short of transferring further. Beginning with the Ds, the top six transferred instead of the top 4. Carson only ran his F and Hagar went from 9th to 5th in his E to miss advancing by one spot. N. Smith couldn't advance out of his E either while Decker and W. Johnson only ran their Ds.

Schurenberg went from 12th to 3rd in his D to make a C where he finished 13th out of 20 cars. K. Swindell was 5th in the first D and then went from 19th to 2nd in his C main. He was moving up again in the B main when he bicycled and hurt the car.

Kasey Kahne had another disappointing Chili Bowl finish in his C but Clauson and Hmiel advanced to Bs. In fact, Hmiel missed the A main by just one spot in the B (7th). Cottle advanced out the first B while Lasoski, Goodman and Gary Wright did not. Although he ran well with a 9th place finish, the youngster Morgan missed the A by 3 spots. Pittman and Crawford made the A from the second B while Ramey missed out. Anyone know why Trey Robb didn't start his B?

Stenhouse was 14th in the A. Crawford went from 24th to 17th, Pittman was 20th, Allgaier was 21st and Cottle, 23rd.

Trey didn't start the B due to motor problems.

Bummer! He had a good starting spot. But thanks for the word. How old is Trey now? 16? 17?

I'll tell you what, there aren't many 16-year olds with a better resume. Mini-Sprints, ASCS, USCS-asphalt, Dirt Mods and a B in the Chili Bowl out of 280 entries!!
