Lookin at all the results from the Outlaw races at Volusia it really seems like the fans down there were treated to first class racing. The track may not always have been best it could be.......but there are a lot of so-called "underdogs" who did very well down there. ASCS reps Zach Chappell, Sam Hafertepe Jr., and Tony Bruce all had a couple of good runs. A driver I never have heard of named Cody Darrah gave the pro's all they could handle and then some. Kerry Madsen goes out and gets his first WoO win against a hell of a field. And thats just mentioning a few I am sure there are more.

The reason this amazes me is all the talk we do and all the stuff we know about the cost of the sport.....but still this year could POTENTIALLY be one of the most competitive years on that circuit in a long long time. Just my opinion. I was lookin through some old WoO programs and in each one it has a map of tracks that WoO ran most every year, and every year SFS was on there. And it's a damn shame that for whatever reasons promoters can't get the Outlaws back here again.

But on the other hand.........the ASCS shows here are outstanding. And as far as traveling series go.......it's better to have ASCS sprints than no sprints at all. Even when it comes to weekly sprints us SFS fans have to be thankful. It could be much, much worse..............just look at the sprint car scene in Tulsa........if you blink you miss it.

I've been to florida for many years and volusia doesn't matter who you are uts about drawing early to qualify, because its slick half way through qualifing, and rubbered down by feature. Its an awesome place though.

I agree OKC12. It's a real shame that we can't get the WoO here. There are no races in Oklahoma or Texas. Who would have thought that was even a possibility back in that series' formative years?

When the little fat man cannot make that money on the sprint shows, he wants no part of it,which means his tracks in Texas and Okla. are not negotiable to WoO shows, Plus in the formative years it was not $35 and up to get a ticket to watch them either.

I agree the WoO are over priced and I would rather see an ASCS show but thats not to say that I wouldn't like to see them brought in. It would also be nice to see the WoO latemodels brought in. More than anything I wish the SFS would set up some USMTS dates. Especially, now that they have this Southern Series going. I'm not going to hold my breath though.

I think the outlaws are in Houston in March.

these things are true. Little Fat Man probably makes more on weekly shows or even ASCS shows than he would with a WoO show. from that angle it seems a bit hard to blame him but damn it I want to see WoO on a good track with decent support classes. Dodge Coty is first class but the support classes there don't amount to much. EXCEPT FOR THE HORNETS.

I agree in general. Only in considering what most of the fans want at SFS would I say that they shouldn't worry too much about bringin in modified series.......I mean I think most the fans would just not recognize the cars. Fans at SFS want sprints. And SFS needs to have an annual 360 Nationals race.....but there is a ton to iron out to do it. In my own opinion I would like to see USMTS or Late Models brought in as long as the sprints remain the top priority. Dogwater check out Oshweken Speedway in Canada website - the vast majority of shows are series races. Sprints on Dirt, ASCS Patriot Sprints, and a WHOLE bunch of mod shows and stuff. And yet at the end of the year they run the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals and its a very big deal the 1st was last year and was a huge success. So in short I agree with ya man......they should bring in at least 1 late model and 1 big mod show.......and another big sprint show. But in the end it's all about money (JD knows this) the Little Fat Man makes a ton off his weekly shows enough so that to bring in races like that he wouldn't make quite as much. O well. We still have good racing at SFS.....but all of us know a few things that could make it a lil better. In the end.......at least we're better off than the Tulsa area (all around).

Dogwater: What do you think of USMTS at Clinton? I think it will be the first and last time they will ever be there........never can get fans in the stands at that place. And who is promoting this race? Is it still Madore and/ or Stratton? At first thought it seems this race is to replace what has been the Sooner-Round-Up annually. It seems incredibly odd that Clinton is to be 2nd only to Enid in hosting a USMTS race...........why don't other tracks host the series? Like So. Coffeyville, Elk City, Ardmore, or Salina?

Just my opinion.

I think that if a promoter could get the money together, he/she could bring in theWoO. It costs alot just to get them to stop. I think this facility is one of the nicest in the entire country. I have been to a bunch of em. From coast to coast. Also, money payouts, let me say that again, MONEY PAYOUTS is what bring car counts up. For that you have to have sponsors. That takes alot of selling to local businesses as well as having a major sponsor for these events. If you want them at SFS your gonna have talk the fairboard into letting you rent the facilities also. ALOT of work guys. How many of us have the time to donate to get all this done every year? Just some tidbits to think about. But it all boils down money again, don't it?

Don't get me wrong, i love the sprints. My favorite type of racing since i first saw it back in the late sixties. I'd love to see them 410s run here on a regular basis with a huge car count also. Somebody that aint doin anything all day, please step up and try to get em but bring the ticket prices down so i can see em too.

I love the ASCS. It is terrific racing. But c'mon, folks, the Outlaws are the Outlaws. That's the best equipment driven, in most cases, by the best talent. Go check the last 25 or so Knoxville Nationals and see how many were won by non-Outlaws. I know it's pricey, but I have rarely walked away from one of those shows feeling like I was cheated.

We can all enjoy the ASCS and I think we all do, but the two are just different. I think the fact that the 410s have been gone from here for so long has dulled some memories.

I'll have to check out that Speedway in Canada. Sounds interesting.

Anyway, I think its great that Clinton is bringing in the USMTS. I'm excited about it! I wish more Oklahoma tracks would do the same. I'm not sure why they don't. Personally, I think Clinton has one of the best tracks in the state so I think that the racing will be excellent! I just hope that things go smoothly. If things do go smoothly I could see them possibly returning in the future... but I guess only time will tell.

I too noticed the dates and that they fall around the time when the Sooner Round up typically happens. I'm curious to see Clinton's schedule for 2007 to see what they have lined up and if the Round up or the Modified Open are going to be returning for this year.

As for who is promoting the USMTS races I have no idea. I imagine Joe but thats just a guess.

How many cars would you have if the Outlaws came to OKC? Unfortunatley, 410'a are dead in this region (OK, TX, KS, etc). Are you willing to pay what it would cost to watch 12 to 15 cars run a show? Without the car-count and the money associated with it, what would it cost to get in, pits or grandstands?

You would have your twenty-whatever regulars plus about maybe five 360 guys show up. Basically, you would maybe get 25-30 cars to show up. But then again, you will get the best winged 410 drivers this country has to offer.

In recent years, that 22-30 number has been about what the 410s have drawn in terms of car count. Sure I'd rather have more than that, but that number is acceptable. Any night of racing boils down to what the top five or six cars are going to do in the A feature, and those top five or six WoO cars are going to feature a lot of speed and skill. One of the last WoO races we had at the fairground was that amazing duel between Danny Wood and Johnny Herrera. Danny got him late (might have been coming out of four) in one of the best WoO races I've ever seen. That would have been a great night of racing if those had been the only two that showed up. I had so much adrenaline pumping that night that I was doing slide jobs on I-40 while driving back to Norman.
