Why the "Bootleggers" theme? To appeal to the goobers who've watched Thunder Road too many times and still get a thrill out of the moonshine connection?

Purely supposition on my part, but since NASCAR's roots are in the bootleggers who decided to race their rigs against each other, that's where the name came from. A bunch of good 'ol boys running on the local dirt track.

And how many current fans do you actually think have even seen Thunder Road??

I worked with a man from Montana of all places who loved the "NASCAR decended from bootleggers" theme. Fifteen years ago I worked with a clown from North Carolina who claimed that every driver and every mechanic in NASCAR were all direct decendants of moonshiners. I asked him if Rusty Wallace's family had been moonshiners back in Missouri. All I got was a puzzled look.

Thunder Road is a cult movie in the South, STILL being shown at Drive-ins. A friend of mine was in South Carolina about 10 years ago visiting his son who was in the military. He went into a video store and he said there were at least a dozen copies of Thunder Road, in a rack all by themselves, right by the front door.

The best movie on that subject in my opinion is Moonshine Highway.

Well, being a "Yankee" of sorts, I'm out of the know with the trends in movies down south.;)

But, I love that movie, and Moonshine Highway is great also...right up there with Thunder Road.

As for being NASCAR related, that's why I titled the thread "All of you NASCAR Fans"; so folks who didn't care didn't bother to read it. But, since it's being held at Eagle and we're running other classes besides the 2 special races...well, it's here.:)

NASCAR doesn't exist anymore... hasn't for quite some time. Just some stockholders who see fit to carry on the name.
