I like having one or two or three while at the races but no more than that and know my limitations. Then I will drink either water or lately good ole Full Throttle.
After leaving HOOTERS southside took I240 home using Douglas to SE 15th. There is a club called the landing zone and I saw this white van start to pull out so I slowed. Then up ahead a cop was behind a wrecker and he had somebody stopped for DUI I guess. Upon getting closer to the scene I slowed down to about 25 mph and got over just so I wouldn't be in the way.
I then saw headlights behind me and got slammed not once, not twice but three or four times. I lost count exactly. I then slammed on my brakes and ran to the van door, slung it open and there this kid was slumped over the wheel in a daze. I went to grab him out of the seat (was going to put a beating on him) but he flung loose, slammed his door and took off.
Me screaming and yelling for the cop (just 100 yards away) saw him come by, get the description and he chased the van until the kid crashed into the sign across the street from McDonalds. If he had a passinger they would have died and luckily he is alive as well.
That was somebodys son and though I am really sore and neck is tighening up, I am lucky I didn't get hurt as well. Although I have been told that tmorrow I am going to feel like Hell.
Please people, if you drink and get out of hand, please don't drive and please don't let your friends drink and drive.
Thank you.
David Smith Jr.

shit like this pisses me off to high hell. too much so to comment on it now. David I;m very sorry to hear of you on the receiving end of such an unfortunate and dangerous accident.
society needs to rethink its complacent acceptance of drinking. people are not responsible enough to do it without endangering others. Press it strong for that lil ounk to do jail time. not just go to jail - but to serve time. it is the only way anyone learns. I know from experience - 68 days of it. I'll elaborate later.
by the time I give reply to this again - there will be other replies and much for me to say - because this is something I am passionate as hell about. and it will be extremely long responses. I know it already. but I am beyond exhausted. will probably do nothing i need to 2moro and just sleep until when we leave for creek.
David .................. I;m glad you are ok man. will leave it there.........for now............
crazy night by the way. wescoe only gets to see the last 2 races from losing his keys - and heard from prob about 10 of us that bethany was close enough for any of us to go get him during intermission. my dad tried to fix a shower head - broke all sorts of shit - plumber bill of 200 somethin dollars. then leaves for the track - and radiator or something blew completely. steam and antifreeze everywhere. gets towed back to his house by hefner - made it to the track before makeup feature started tho, but just a crazy crazy night for the fans.....................
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a
wouldchuck could chuck would

I saw the after-effects of that accident when the wrecker driver was putting that van up on the flatbed. I just happened to be going home down 15th after gettin gas down the street from there.
That sign took quite a impact and the van was probably totalled.

Sorry to hear about that David, and a very good thing you didn't get badly hurt. We had our own scary moment last night as well. Rolling down 44 last night at about the Tuttle exit where the road curves a bit and the speed limit is already 70. Saw a car with their break lights on that we assumed was sitting on the side of the road. Upon flying up on them at 70 mph and with the slight curve, we suddenly discovered that they were pulled over, but was still over half way in the road. Thank god nobody was right beside us at the time or we would of nailed them pretty bad. Of course we weren't the only ones making quick moves to miss them either.

Glad you weren't injured badly and hope the soreness is all gone now:) Drinking and driving is a real close to home subject with me as well - I was hit and injured by a drunk driver my Sr. year of high school. Pretty rough recovery but a valuable lesson for my friends.
So everyone take note - if you drink and drive - you could end or change someones life!

Sadly, it doesn't seem like drunk drivers manage to take each other out....usually the innocent, sober person/family. Even worse is the laws really aren't tough enough on them....until they do take a life.
