410s (21 Cars)

Welcome Mat
Billy Alley, Brooke Tatnell & Matt Wasmund sign in the back gate.

MIA
The whole Jeffrey clan missing, Ryan Bickett, Clint Garner still without a 410 motor.

VIP
No Wertz tonight but he was shocked to find that "The Doc" was there especially since he was without a Wertz Designs logo to be found. BT24, and the elders are back to fill up the turn 4 VIP.

Time Trials (1 lap each)
Justin Henderson (13th out) sets quick time at 10.778 at an average speed of 125.250 MPH. The next 4 were separated by .039 seconds with Alley 2nd, Mark Dobmeier 3rd, Johnn Cressman 4th and Scott Winters 5th. The rest of the top 18 making the heat invert: Gary DeWall, Wade Nygaard, John Lambertz, Jake Peters, Gregg Bakker, Chad Meyer, Matt Wasmund, Micah Schliemann, Brooke Tatnell, Marlon Jones, Gordy Vogelaar, Dusty Ballenger, and John Miller

Time Trials Grade: A-; with the closeness of the top 5 and all of them being under 10.900. Stepping their games up for the future Outlaw show on July 3rd.

Row 4

Heat 1 Finish: 4 9N D1 11x/ 56 33 6

Heat 1 Notes: Schliemann checks out with slick turns over in 3 and 4. Henderson worked his way up to 3rd, while Vogelaar faded with a not-so-tacky track. The heat win was Schliemann's 3rd so far this year.

Heat 2 Starting Order:

2D

Dusty Ballenger

Row 1

1

Brooke Tatnell

1w

Chad Meyer

Row 2

Mitch Runge

Row 4

Heat 2 Finish: 1 2D 1w 23w/ 22 12L 28

Heat 2 Notes: Tatnell leaves everyone in the dust again for his 4th heat win in just his 5th appearance this year. Winters and Alley got jumbled up behind the rest of the field and tracked the rest down for the invert, but Alley just came up short on the last lap. The "Combine" did a nice job to hold onto 2nd.

Heat 3 Starting Order:

24M

John Miller

Row 1

9M

Marlon Jones

4w

Matt Wasmund

Row 2

57x

Jake Peters

Chuck McGillivray

Row 4

Heat 3 Finish: 57x 13 16 4w/ 101 9M (DNF) 24M (DNF)

Heat 3 Notes: Peters took the lead on the 2nd lap while on lap 3, the 9M spun out in turn 3 with the slick surface with the 24M having nowhere to go but into the side of him. Both would retire for the event. Dobmeier got up to 2nd after the restart but couldn't run down The Snake, as that was his 1st heat win of the year.

Heat Grades: A-; pretty good track to pass on already in the heats, atleast compared to the recent past and the narrow tracks we've had.

B Feature (Top 2 Tag the A, 8 Laps)
Starting Order: No B Feature has all 21 cars got the free pass to the A.

Initial start was splendid with Winters taking the point on the high side with rubber starting to be laid right up against the wall. Henderson and Dobmeier were right there in tow with Peters joining the 4-some soon after. A whole lot of maneuvering going on in traffic with Winters holding the lead until Henderson peaked on the bottom out of 2. Winters saw it and came down to pinch him going into 3 with the former WoO field filler deciding to not hit the brakes to avoid the 23w. Henderson flips while Winters spins out, but keeps all 8 candles lit to drive away from the accident scene. Many others in the pits afterwards agreed on it being a racing deal while battling for the lead, so don't call the biased card here!

Henderson's done for the night, takes the car out through the back gate and leaves the Huset's faithful with their faces in their hands, for yet the 3rd race in a row at the track. Winters had some nose wing damage and front end damage, but still had the point with 9 to go at the restart. Dobmeier was behind him on the restart, with Peters & Tatnell (from 11th) there as well.

Winters car was bobbling in the corners and Dobmeier was just setting him up for a slider on a tricky track with the rubber on the top. He completed it with 4 to go with a slider in 2 and Peters got by Winters as well in heavy traffic coming out of 4. Dobmeier gives a "SEEYA" to the rest of the field for his 2nd win in a row, 3rd of the year, and #23 on his young, but terrific career. Peters was 2nd, Winters holding on for 3rd, Tatnell 4th and Bakker 5th. Alley popped a tire on the last lap while battling for 5th and crawled across in 9th. Lap leaders were Winters 1-21, Dobmeier 22-25.

Finish: 13 57x 23w 1 11x 4 1w 56 22 2D/ 6 12L 4w 101 9M 33 16 D1 9N 24M 28

A Feature Grade: A+; great racing upfront with the top 4. The bad luck continues for the D1 ever since opening his mouth over the PA system. Man, karma really is a bitch, aint it? The track could be run on both the bottom (when needed to pass lapped cars), was lightning fast on the top and slidejobs could be put on when warranted as well!

360s (20 cars, 18 laps)
Ryan Bickett took off with the lead early in the race with Jody Rosenboom running him down rather quickly and peaks on the bottom coming out of 2. Bickett sees it and pinches him as well going into 3 punctuating a hole into the 27's right rear. On lap 8, red flag comes out for Brock Dump as he had nowhere to go when a lapper stops at the top of turn 2 with a broken axle. Pretty hard hit for Dump but he did walk away after a bit. This allowed Rosenboom's crew to plug the tire and he took the lead with 8 to go and held on even though Dave Glennon was coming in a hurry, and he settled for 2nd there. Bickett held on for 3rd.

FOAW: We'll give the full nod to the 13 of Dobmeier tonight since he took the lead with 4 to go passed the other FOAW in Winters. The Report is pretty damn sure that Winters would have held on for win #1 on the year if he hadn't had damage. But good luck to Dobmeier up on his home track in Grand Forks Friday against the Outlaws.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: Winters showing no remorse and pulling a WoO-esque pinch into 3 to hold off Henderson.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: Johnny Gibson getting booed by the VIP for the 2nd straight week when interviewed during intermission. Care to call back the remark as a top 5 talent not on tour? Or do you enjoy pie on your face all the time?

WTF: Winters not handing over the lead, gotta love someone wanting to hold onto it for once when pressured by the D1, and then keeping the car lit to hold onto the lead for the upcoming restart. Bravo job, kid.

"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Doing the 360 feature before the hobby stocks which then caused a marathon hobby stock feature on the slick track which was a result of it being after the 360s. Put it back in the normal order.

Mulligan Moment: Myself for dropping a t-shirt shot out of a cannon during intermission. Two different chances at grabbing it and came up with no effing tshirt. Sunglasses also thrown off the hat, just a bad sequence of events. Hell of a shot from Mr. Neisteadt though, you'll be hearing more noise, don't you worry.

Head Scratcher: Couldn't find anything to put in from the races so the Minnesota Twins get this posistion since getting swept in Chicago and being 6 ½ out and now only being 1 ½ out after tonight. Can't quite figure this team out.

Thumbs Up: Track prep, helluva job tonight. See what happens when you take some water off and let the track slick off? Great racing all around.

Thumbs Down: N/A. Too damn thrilled after that race to give negatives tonight.

Prime Mover: Tatnell was impressive coming from 11th to 4th. Alley had moved moved up from 14th to about 6th until he lost his tire on the last lap. Otherwise Lambertz, Rosenboom passed a good chunk in the back.

Trophy Queen Grade: Looked pretty damn good up top so we're giving them an A-.

Closing Stat of the Night: We have a point championship race again with Henderson DNF'ing. Dobmeier unofficially within 4 (cut from 20) after a tally done with the results given.

Might as well be the first to get on your sh*t list for this week. Now, keep in mind that I would say this about anyone who was put out the same way. What Winters did to Henderson was just racing, yes it was, but it was dirty racing. I had the perfect angle standing on my bucket at the exit of turn two. Winters flat out turned left into Henderson......it was a dirty move. Legal??? Yes, clean???? Not a chance. I'd even be in McCarl's corner if he was taken out the same way. This seems to be happening more and more any more. If some one gets along side of you....hit 'em. Why bother racing them cleanly when you can hit'em.

And, congrats to the Doc for showing up once, too.

Why did Johnny Gibosn get booed? Was it a joke? He's the best friggin' announcer in sprintcar racing.

Is this THE Johnny Gibson? Either way, I have to agree with SteveV about the best sprint car announcer bit... always exciting to listen to. Also want to thank Big J once again for a great report, keep them coming... sounds like I missed one heck of a race tonight!

The video replay of the feature race at http://www.keloland.com/sports/NewsDetail7981.cfm?Id=0,71042 is definitely worth the watch. Next best thing to being there! Thanks for the recap.

Just out of curiousity, if Winters sustained front end and front wing damage when "pinching" the D1, that would imply that the D1 was more than along side of him when said "pinch" move was attempted, would it not? Also looking at the pictures in speedshots this weekend, the D1 would appear to be AHEAD of winters with plenty of race track between them. Maybe thats just the camera angle though.

The photo in the Speedshotz is looking straight ahead at them as they raced out of turn two. There is no angle to it. Henderson maintained a wheel out in front down the backstretch until Winters made a left turn into him. BTW, before the race I was kind of hoping Winters could win because he's been something to watch, but I don't want to see anyone win that way. If you have to take someone out to win, you're really not the winner.

Hypocrite alert all over this thread! Henderson did the same exact move on one of the nights he won going into 1(believe it was to Cressman) causing him to slam on the brakes to avoid him and not wreck the both of them. It was definitely okay to do it then, but its aggravated assault now that Winters did it to your precious Golden Boy! Also, last week when he came up through the field, he was driving wrecklessly and caused others to get out of the throttle and tap the brakes (go ask Chad Meyer about it down the backstretch which caused him to lose like 4 spots). And about the picture, ever heard of getting momentum off of the rubber laid on the the top side of 2?!? Sweet, sweet justice was served in the end and we'll leave this alone by mentioning KARMA one more time. BIG J

Big J, there's is a difference as no one ended up upside down. I can say my opinion without bias, you can't. I'd have the same opinion on this deal if even the Dude would have been the one left upside down. I think your opinion would change. Maybe looking staright at the deal would be better than looking through the brown Budweiser bottles. I don't know about you, but I just want to see good racing. The feature last night was a barnburner until Winters pulled a stupid stunt. Most of your opinion deals with who was involved.

I could believe that getting a run off the top theory, but looking at the video in the link posted above winters was along side the D1 all the way down the backstrech, never was he even a nose infront. There is a diffference between pinching a driver and flat driving into the side of him. A good driver will have to be aggressive at times to make moves that will win a race. But I ask if you could bring up a situation where the D1 hit another car and caused them to get upside down because he was trying to keep a faster car behind him.

all that can be said is winters is fast and can be good but he can be dirty...from my point of view at jackson it looked to me as if he tapped the 1w car and got him spinning which took out cressman so i can see if someone would think or know that he raced dirty and took out henderson. if that was a real world of outlaw driver he would get punted out.

And after watching the video I'm beginning to think Winters didn't even see him at all. I don't even think HE would have done that on purpose had he seen the D1 down there. I think he was just going low to pass Cressman on the low side in lapped traffic. And the drunken ramblings remarks? LMAO, I've drank 1 night out of 9 at the track (Outlaws), so yah, they've always been drunken ramblings then I guess...

And I love how its the same people every week posting with their defense against the Report. If you don't like it, don't read it and sure as hell don't post then! Do you keep forgetting to read the DISCLAIMER at the top of the Report? Your starting to take it waaay to serious with those false drunken allegations, but its funny nonetheless. Don't worry though the hits will keep on comin'! Its just you blind handful on here that continue to disagree while the email box fills up and compliments continue to stack up on here.

And for those of you looking for me in the near future (you know who you are), I'll be wearing one of those "Where's Waldo" stocking hats, shirts, and thick glasses in the crowd and pits afterwards next Sunday. So it shouldn't be too hard to find me... LMAO. Thank you to those people for making my week start off great with the news that I'm wanted. Will the real Big J please stand up?!
