Are the Phlyers really that good Mikey?

And the Sharks...who woulda thunk it after they came back on the Flames the way they did?

Reality is setting in with Les Habitants. They have TOO many Czechs/Ruskies on their team, talented and heartless, the Stanley Cup is a whole different ballgame than the regular season where floating half the time is the norm. A cheap power-play goal with less than 30 seconds left in game one is about all that has kept them from getting swept.

The play-offs are generally won by the team with the hottest goaltender and right now Biron is much the best in this series, heck he has won at least two games all by himself. Boston outplayed Montreal and should have won 5 games in that series alone.

I had about given up on hockey most of my many years in the US which were not good years for my beloved Flyers either. Lasy year hurt but they made some great trades, signed some terrific free agents and Holmgren has done a magnificent job of building a TEAM again. They may not have enough just yet but they work hard on every shift and at this team of the year heart can beat talent every now and then, soooo.

Last year in this forum I had Anaheim beating Ottawa in the final (before the play-offs started) and it was pretty obvious, this year I made no such predictions. The Penguins and Dead Wings were the best on paper but in my dreams it would be San Jose and the Flyers and my play-off pool reflects that, I drafted 4 from each team, oops.

San Jose needs Mr. Thornton to get rollin' but his play-off history is brutal and with him coming from ten minutes from where I live the local media has been kinda tough on him. I honestly think that they have the talent to come back, especially of Nabby comes alive, I sure hope so. Personally, beating the Frogs would make my play-offs but they are just flukey enough to come back so I've withheld contacting most of my Hab friends and gloating, so far. They know it will be more than painful though if Kate's boys do it, nobody gave us a chance when the series started, especially around here.

As much as I think this great game has got to girliesh and too over refereed, these play-offs have been decent and I will likely continue to watch, with or without my guys still playing, got my fingers crossed though. Take It Easy.....

The Flyers will meet their maker next week when Sid, Evgeni and Jordan host them...

Can they even win a game? Freakin' Flyers...give me a break! What a horrible penalty to take for Montreal to give them the power play last night...

I hope the Sharks pull it out...I think I had unreal expectations when they re-signed Ozolinsh, and picked up Roenick, and Joe's only scored twice I think in 11 playoff games; Setoguchi and Grier need to pick up the pace

Turco picked up his game...the OT loss was brutal!

When I was younger I was a huge fan of the Flyers...Cochrane; McCarthy; Brian Propp; at least one of the Sutters???; Brind'Amour...and the man/myth/legend himself Bobby Clarke!

Wonder how he feels whoopin' some eastern European ass?

You tube has been more fun for me than any other site on the net for the last year or so, especially watching some old hockey scraps, WOW!

Bill my brother, you have more talent and better players but NO goaltending which will likely be your undoing in the next round or finals. It was a bonehead penalty and one of the few that was deserved all night long, thank you very much.

P-cat, I got a million hockey stories (Bill's heard quite a few) to share with you if we ever hook up, till then, Take It Easy....

The Habs put all their eggs in one basket, that being their talented, but young and inexperienced goalie. They are not as tough as the Flyers and their grit, as well as Biron have been the difference. Habs fans can be real idiots sometimes. Example, booing the American National Anthem as well as singing that stupid, annoying song throughout most of the game!!!! ole lay ole lay ole lay!!!!LOL. I'm hoping the Flyers can finish them off, but how do you explain all these 2-3 goal leads they keep blowing. Talk about cardiac arrest!!! The Pens will be tough to beat for whoever faces them. They're my pick to take it all. But you gotta love Philly's grit and determination. Hope they spank the Habs on Sat and put an end to their misery!! I love the Sharks, but again goaltending seems to have done them in. Their series with Dallas could very well be 3-1 Sharks, except for a few bad bounces. I think they will win the next one, but that might be it after that.

Mike, Mike, Mike. . .though I think you're a VERY knowledgeable sprint car fan, I'm shocked that you'd say the Pens have no goaltending. They currently lead ALL teams in the playoffs with the fewest goals against, while having given up the 4th most shots. Fleury is amazing at the moment, despite the three he gave up tonight.

I'll be hearing the greatest announcer in sports (Mike Lange) saying "Lord Stanley, Lord Stanley, pass me the brandy" VERY soon!

The Flyers have been playing good, their net keeper has been the deciding factor. A hot keeper can take you a long way in the playoffs. The puck has been bouncing Philly's way even though the refs calls have not been. Nothing more I'd like to see than the Flyboyz go up there on Saturday and completely dissappoint those half-breed French fans by kicking their team right in the teeth. I won't say the series is over cuz I watched Washington come back from 2 down to make it a 7 game series. The young Flyers need to learn how to play with a lead.

The Pens have been a tough match for the Flyers all year. The Flyers are playing much better hockey right now than at any time during the season when they met. I love to have a series where there is someone on the opposing team that I hate, and Crosby will do for the next series if they get there.

Gibby, lotsa reasons for that comment and history is on my side, methinks.

Canada's juniors have won 4 World Championships in a row and the last two they lost had Fleury in goal and in both final games he blew third period leads, arghhhhh. Junior hockey up here is on a comparable basis with College B'ball down there, especially when it comes to March Madness. Our local team averages over 9,000 per game and has been sold out all but a couple of games since the new rink was built. It's a much better game than the pros play!

Fleury was the number one pick in the draft which is scarry for starters since goalies are a dime a dozen for the most part and great ones come from nowhere often (Patrick Roy 51st pick, Ken Dryden, drafted by the Bruins and makes the NHL with Les Habs 7 years later, Bernie Parent another Boston cast-off, taken by the Flyers in the expansion draft and on and on....) As of today he is nowhere near living up to that pick and you could have had Staal from Carolina and Getzlaf and Perry from Anaheim, already Cup winners as well as Vanek, Phaneuf or Parise. Heck, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards from my Flyers are two guys I wouldn't trade even up for three names Frenchy.

Having said this and still a little bitter from those junior collapses, if he continues to improve the Penguins are gonna own the Cup for as many years as the Habs, Isles and Oilers did during their hay-days. I just don't want to see that, hence my comments, lol. He is the only achilles heal on that team other than luck of funds, a building etc etc. We have played the Penguins three times in the play-offs and have yet to lose a series so I guess we're due but compared to where we were a year ago, we go down with a smile this time. On the other side, maybe we can surprise the experts, AGAIN, hope so, Take It Easy....

PS I just can't seem to despise the Penguins like I have the Habs and Rangers, for Decades. I lot of it has to do with the class of Super Mario, both on and off the ice. If it comes down to the Dead Wings and Penguins then I will be cheering very loudly for the tuxedo boys to win, much to the chagrin of a certain track announcer in SoCal who I'm surprised hasn't chirped in by now, lol.....
