I am not a resident of OKC but if I was, I would vote NO!!! And I am a huge sports fan with basketball ranked fourth amongst my favorite but still watch it. I know the votes are already decided and it will pass but, what will YOU vote or what would you vote if you were an OKC resident?
It seems with every proposed tax that there will be higher paying jobs and betterment for the city/state. How many times will they use this reasoning?
I would vote NO as they shouldn't have cut corners with the Ford Center in the first place, they should have done it right the first time.
Just my opinion, your vote?

I'm gonna vote YES! Why not support improving our city? If we fix up our arena, we can get it up to the level of several NBA facilities, at a better value even. As a sports fan, I loved having the Hornets here and all the attention OKC was getting on ESPN. We were playing with the big boys, and had a lot of success. I think it's good for the city.
Let's Go Racin'!!

as much as I support OKC having a professional team. I'd have to say NO. why? because it's pro basketball and that sucks ass. That and baseball are BY FAR the 2 most boring sports in the world IMO. especially pro b-ball b/c there ain't no defense and they have to play rap music during the game just to get the youngins to enjoy it - I mean - when you have to do that - you know it must be pretty bad. nothing against fans of the sport. but a different sport would be better. well - on 2nd thought - they'd have to build a whole new stadium which means more taxes - so no I'm not really for any of this stuff. If it does happen I hope it works out very well for the OKC area and whatever teams are involved.
But I am VERY suprised that the article I read last week in the paper hasn't been brought up here. I can't remember exactly what day it was - but it mentioned that they were going to have a firm investigate and report over the structural soundness of the grandstand at SFS. there was also a comment from the mayor that gave quite an impression. can't recall it exactly - but something about how it isn't up to standards or something. I mean - thats usually the kind of crap they say when they have an agenda in mind. Make a few statements about structural integrity and then hire a firm that is chum with city officials. I think there are possibly several different ideas they are considering bout the fairgrounds. but who knows. but do notice how no one wants to commit a statement on the future of the track past a year or 2.

Fan you need to do some hunting for that article. I would be interested in reading it. I am another who voted no. I have told people that if the grandstands go away that there will be a bitch fest, although small and they do not believe me about that.
Here are what the so called improvements are for the Ford Center. Sounds like to me they are catering to the money crowd.
What possible improvements and upgrades to the Ford Center are included in the plan? - The majority of the funds will go to adding "fan-friendly" amenities such as aesthetic changes to plain floors and walls, restroom upgrades and the additions of restaurants, concession areas and new skybox-style suites in the upper level. OKC's special projects manager Tom Anderson also mentioned new "roof gardens" where visitors can go outside, have a drink and look at the skyline.
In addition, a new entrance will be added on the southwest side of the arena that will give the building a bit more character. Changes to benefit a potential NBA team include new locker rooms, a warm-up court and an off-site practice facility.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands
in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he
stands at times of challenge and controversy."

All forms of sporting events need improvement in OKC area.
Auto Racing
Hockey
Basketball
Horses
ETC, ETC
If you want to expand the horizen vote Yes.
If you want to maintain a not times project but help something else vote No.
Maybe all of us none OKC residents should stop spending our money in OKC.
Us that would mean stop supporting our local Racers at SFS.

I intend to vote not only NO, but HELL NO!, but I'm just old and cranky. That arena will never be fan friendly until they tear out the seats and redo them, with about 1/3 fewer but decent, comfortable seats. I've been to two or three events there and I wouldn't go again for the Second Coming. It was built cheap to begin with and a few cosmetic changes won't alter that fact.
A couple of things about this vote annoy me....our Mayor stating "it will not increase taxes," for one. They ALREADY increased taxes years ago for MAPS 1, and now they think it's THEIR money to do with as they choose. It's OURS. They're already looking at "upgrading" the Bricktown Ballpark to accomodate other sports, and the reason is the same as this vote...the people who own Bricktown aren't getting rich enough quick enough. In case it's slipped anyone's attention, the parking down there belongs to Kirk Humphries. I don't think anyone who owns a restaurant down there lives on my side of town, either. They want something "BIG" going on in Bricktown 365 days a year, so after the NBA, the next thing we go after is a NHL team, probably. Guess that will be MAPS, what, six? Seven? When does it stop?
I guess if I don't like it, I can vote with my feet. Nearest thing to that is doing a lot more of my shopping at Tinker, which unlike most folks, unfortunately, is a choice open to me.
