With the Dustin Duncan-JustSayYes bonus, if the winning driver has the JustSayYes decal on his car, the Mod winner will get $2250, the Lim/Sport Mod gets $1250, Southern Stock, $950 and Factory Stock, $750!
See last post for update from the track!

for a clearer black and white copy that you can print out, go here:

The early entry fee is $25 for all classes until Feb 20th. After that, just $40. Pretty dang good for a $400 to start feature on a 2-day event in Modifieds and $125 to start in the other 3 classes.

2008 Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals Modified Racing Format
Format summary: Each driver will run two heat races Friday night. The top 4 in passing points (combined total from the two heats) will be locked into Saturday’s “A” Main. 5th through 8th in points will be locked into Saturday’s “B” Main. 9th through 12th in points will be locked into Saturday’s “C” Main. Ties for these A, B and C Main positions will be broken by the original draw with the driver that had the lowest draw number winning the tie. The remaining cars will go to a D Feature Saturday and will be lined-up by their points. The number of cars will determine how many D Features and how many transfer out of each to go to Saturday’s “C” Main. All drivers are required to sign-in EACH day in order to get in the line-up. Late sign-ins will be lined up on the rear and will not receive passing points for heat races. Draw ends at 6:30 on Friday and all drivers need to be signed-in by 3:00 on Saturday.
Friday: Each driver will run two heat races. Each driver will draw for heat position for the first set of heats (low draw numbers to the front). Each driver will be lined up in the second set of heats using the results from the first set of heats (high point drivers to the rear). The passing point system will be used in both sets of heat races. Passing point system: 1st-59pts, 2nd-55pts, 3rd-51pts, 4th-47pts, 5th-43pts, 6th-39 pt, 7th-35pts, 8th-31pts, 9th-27pts, 10th-23pts, 11th-19pts, 12th-15pts, 13th-11pts, 14th-7pts, 15th-3pts. Each driver will earn points for the position where they finish, plus 1.5 points for each position that they improve from their original starting position. Just because you were in the first heat for the first round does not mean that you will be in the first heat for the second set of heats. Check the line up and be ready to race.
Saturday: Each driver that is not already locked into the A, B, or C Main will run a D Feature. The D Features will be lined-up using the combined results of the heat races. All races Saturday will be run heads-up (no passing points except for determining the original line-up). Sixteen cars from the D Features will move up to the “C” Main (number of cars moving up from each D Feature will be determined by the number of D Features run). The top sixteen cars from the “C” Main will move up to the “B” Main and the top sixteen cars from the “B” Main will move up to the “A” Main.

Fixed a typo in the first paragraph of the format. It accidently mentioned Sunday.
This is just a 2-day show scheduled for Friday-Saturday. The only way Sunday comes into play is if one of those two days gets rained out

The practice scheduled for this Sunday has been canceled.
Gene said he thought the pits and parking would dry up fine tomorrow but the track was a little soft before the rain. They had been out working it some. He said he rather concentrate on the track prep and so far, the weatherman is giving him a good 5 days to work on it.
Last year's Spring Nats track was not the normal Ark-La-Tex Racing surface. They were building the new pit area last year -- battling rain like we always do this time of year -- and Gene didn't get to the track like he wanted to until too close to the race. This year, he's already been working the track and if you know Gene Boyter when he feels challenged about something, then you know he's going to have one fine race track come Friday night unless Mother Nature really dumps on him between now and then,.... and right now, it looks like she's going to behave herself for a few days!
So, we'll practice Thursday as scheduled from 6 to 9PM.
BTW, the flyer did have the wrong time on it for Saturday but it's fixed now. We will start at 3:30. We also hope that the B mains will start promptly at 7:30. If the Ds & Cs finish earlier than that, we'll take a break and re-work the track to give us the best finale possible! :D

One more correction...
The goal for Saturday is to start the A mains at 7:30! not the Bs
We wll start racing promptly at 3:30 on Saturday and run straight through the B mains. Then, if we have time, re-prep the track and start the first of the 4 A mains promptly at 7:30. So, if all you wanted to see was the A-mains, be there at 7:30 and you won't miss any. If can be, naturally, we'd like to have you there at 3:30 too!

Race week is finally here and the 2008 season is set to begin at Ark-La-Tex Speedway!
We're not sure yet just who's going to race where. Last year's Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals winner in the Modifieds, Michael Robertson, is coming off a huge weekend at Paris Motor Speedway where he had to advance from 8th starting spot in the Mods to finish 2nd but he also charged from 11th starting spot to win $3000 in the Limited Modified class.
Jamie Burford captured the Modified $3000 win at Paris. He also won a $3000 Modified Spring Nationals last year at Boothill. He had a fast Limited last week at Paris too. Lost a motor Saturday while running second and in Sunday's B, went from 18th to 3rd but broke a rear end on the white flag lap.
Where will these two race? I don't know yet. We may not know until Friday. Weather, track conditions and Thursday night performances at other shows may not make up some folks' mind until then.
Some have indicated they will be at Ark-La-Tex even though it's a further drive than other tracks that are racing. One is coming from Ada, Oklahoma! The $40 entry fee, $15 pit pass for Thursday's practice night, free camping and overnight rig parking, 2-day 2000 to win/$400 to start format on this well-prepared, racy, 2 and 3 wide, 1/4 mile oval (even when slick!) is appealing to many area racers and even some not-so-area racers in these days of $3.00 a gallon gas.
Whoever pulls through the gate, one thing is for sure, it promises to be one exciting weekend in Vivian regardless! So, we'll just have to see......

Once again Robbie Duncan of Duncan's Towing & Transportion (locations in Longview, TX and Shreveport, LA) has stepped up in support of our region's racers. Each of the four classes at Ark-La-Tex Speedway Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals -- Modifieds, Limited Modifieds, Southern Stocks and Factory Stocks -- scheduled for this Friday & Saturday in Vivian, Louisiana wil have a $250 bonus added to their purse. The Dustin Duncan-JustSayYes bonus will go to the first car to cross the finish line in the feature that has a "Just Say Yes" decal on the car. They look similar to the cross in the above graphic and Robbie will be at Ark-La-Tex this weekend with the decals. The cost for a decal is free!
Mods will now pay a possible $2250 to win with Limited Mods a possible $1250 to win, Southern Stocks, $950 to win & Factory Stocks, $750 to win.
Be sure and visit www.justsayyes.tv . You can click on the graphic above and it will take you there... |

Update, Thursday Feb 28, 4:30PM.
-- All systems go! Practice starts at 6 tonight and the track is in great shape!
--Weekend Weather Forecast Update for Vivian, Louisiana (Don't be alarmed -- we're going to get the whole show in!)
They are calling for a 40% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms from around 9 AM to 1PM tomorrow (Friday) with south winds. Then after 2PM, rain chances almost none until we get into a 30% chance late on Sunday. The wind shifts from a moist south wind Friday morning to a warm, dry west wind Friday afternoon and we will be fine from then through Saturday night so bring it on!!!
--The Pat Bunch Memorial Modified winner from Paris last Sunday -- Jamie Burford -- will race the Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals this weekend! I saw the video of his race from Sunday afternoon. That #19 Burford & May Motorsports/Calhoun Longhorns C+ Cattle Ranches/Bullet Racing Engines TRE Chassis was hooked up + flying at Paris!
--Don't forget to purchase your 2008, Trickwild Graphics designed (Linn Lindsey) Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals T-shirt EARLY in the weekend so you don't miss out!!!
--Unfinished business here...
This is the format for the Limited Mods/Sport Mods and other classes that I should have posted a long time ago. (Modified format was posted already). It looks like a neat deal to me so check it out! My apologies for being this late with it....
2008 Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals Racing Format (Factory Stock, Southern Stock and Sport Mod)
Format summary: Each driver will run a heat race Friday night. The top 4 in passing points will be locked into Saturday’s A Main. The remaining drivers will run a heat race Saturday night with the winners of these heats advancing to the A Main and the rest of the drivers will run a B Feature with the top 12 advancing to the A Main. All drivers are required to sign-in EACH day in order to get in the line-up. Late sign-ins will be lined up on the rear and will not receive passing points for heat races. Draw ends at 6:30 on Friday and all drivers need to be signed-in by 3:00 on Saturday.
Friday: Each driver will draw for heat race starting position. The heat races will be run using the passing point system. Passing point system: 1st-59pts, 2nd-55pts, 3rd-51pts, 4th-47pts, 5th-43pts, 6th-39 pt, 7th-35pts, 8th-31pts, 9th-27pts, 10th-23pts, 11th-19pts, 12th-15pts, 13th-11pts, 14th-7pts, 15th-3pts. Each driver will earn points for the position where they finish, plus 1.5 points for each position that they improve from their original starting position. Late sign-ins will be on the back of a heat race and will earn points for their finishing position but will not receive passing points. The top 4 in passing points for each class will be locked into Saturday’s A Main. Ties will be broken by the original draw with the driver that drew the lowest number winning the tie.
Saturday: All drivers not already qualified for an A Main will run a heat race. The heat races will be lined-up from the results of Friday night’s passing point heat races. These heat races will be run heads-up (no passing points except for determining the original line-up). Example: the 5th place driver in passing points after Friday’s heat races will be on the pole of the first heat race Saturday. New drivers will be put on the rear of these heat races. Winners from these heat races will advance to the A Main. The remaining drivers will run a B Feature with 12 drivers advancing to the A Main. The B Features will be lined up from the results of Saturday’s heat races. Number of heats and B Features will be determined by the number of cars in each class. If there are 20 or fewer cars in a class, that class will only run heat races on Saturday night to determine the line up for the A Main.
Next Update: Friday Morning!

-- Weather Update 9AM Friday Morning
The NWS has reduced the rain chances for today in Vivian down to 30%. There's some scattered really, really light stuff around Texarkana right now. Just formed over the last 2 hours or so. If that even hits the track it will have no effect on the show. They still bring the dry line through between 3 and 4 PM today and drop the chances to 20% or less all the way until Sunday afternoon. Saturday night has a 0% chance of rain so don't let any talk of showers in the area slow you down for a minute! We're getting this one in!
-- Over 40 cars (remember there are 4 classes racing in the Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals!) participated in last night's practice and the track is awesome!!!
Should be one fine weekend at Ark-La-Tex Speedway!!!!

2PM Update
Well, it's 30 percenting all around the Lake-O-The-Pines area west of the track. NO RAIN at the Speedway at all yet. Still, 30% chance til 5 o'clock now before the chances drop. Don't believe it's enough to rain us out even if it hits but we're in "duck and dodge" mode until 5. Can't do anything but head for the track now. Race time is 7PM. And if it doesn't rain, that's when we'll start. If it does, may start later but we're going to be racing this weekend either way!!!
