I'm happy to post that the USMTS Southern Series will start it's 2008 season at South Texas Speedway in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 7th, 8th and 9th. From today, December 21st, that gives us (and you!) 48 days to get ready or just a tad under 7 weeks! Don't panic though. The next Southern Series race won't be until April. Make sure you get to the South Texas Speedway races though because the points you earn that weekend become very, very important for that next show in April!

The Southern Series will have a Top Dog Bonus in 2008. Under that program, every driver in the top 10 in points is guaranteed $300 against their winnings even if they don't make the A main. Also 11th through 15th in points are guaranteed $200 against their winnings even if they don't make the A main. The catch? The catch is, you can't miss a race. Only drivers who attend every Southern Series race are elegible. There were 22 races last year with 7 drivers making all of them and at least that many more who could have had their been a Top Dog Bonus last year. The bonus will begin at the first April show and will use the points earned at South Texas to set the 15 Top Dogs.

Weather in south Texas can be fantastic that time of year! The average high temperature for Corpus and the South Padre Island area on those dates is near 70 and the average low is near 50. Very nice! Record highs on those dates, have even reach 90 before. Source: www.weather.com

USMTS will be releasing it's National and Southern Series schedules shortly. USMTS Southern Series has confirmed dates already at Gator Motorplex (Willis, TX), Cowtown Speedway (Kennedale, TX), Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, LA), I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, AR), Monticello Speedway (AR), Fast Trax Speedway (Chatham, LA), and Houston Raceway Park. The season will end the first weekend of December in Houston and we expect to have between 20 to 25 races for the series including a 5 or 6-race Southern Series Speedweek from June 3rd to June 8th. Other tracks that will be on the 2008 scheduled and just not sure of the dates yet include Sabine Motor Speedway (Many, LA), Speedarama (Lufkin, TX), 105 Speedway (Cleveland, TX) and Motorama (Beaumont, TX). Additional tracks in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi have expressed interest but dates are limited. Call Todd at 515-832-7944 or Hook's RPM at 318-294-0282 if you want a Southern Series date but hurry!

There you have it folks. Look forward to seeing you all at South Texas Speedway in February. It will be the only stop that far south for USMTS in 2008 so please support it if you can! In the meantime, from all of us at USMTS and Hook's RPM, have a Merry Christmas and a joy-filled holiday season!
