He won Indy tonight. Awesomely fun race!
Why did he decide to run USAC/Non-Wing stuff considering he grew up around so many wings?

terrific drive and probably the biggest win of his career. it seems like every year he takes another step forward and does something he hadn't done before. he already put in a great run at the chili bowl. he's had top 5 qualifying runs on nascar tracks in the silver crown car.
it's been interesting to see him evolve as a somewhat cautious (but still terrific and smart) driver to somebody who's gotten a little bit of "win or wreck trying" in him. it looked like he got off the cushion last night when he started extending his lead which was a veteran move. no need to play with fire up there if you don't have to.
i said in another post that he's the most exciting thing going on pa right now. his team has put a wing on a few times. i believe he made an outlaw feature at bridgeport. they haven't had the same success with a wing...but also haven't put in anywhere near the track time so maybe it's just a matter of needing more experience.

Nice kid, and well-spoken. That was a great race last night. I challenge someone to tell me what track puts on better racing than IMS does with the midgets. Maybe I-55.

Briggs actually raced weekly in a Northeast dirt Modified at Grandview (Pa.) Speedway. Granted, Briggs was only 16 when he raced Modifieds at Grandview, but I never would have predicted what a great non-wing racer he turned into.
His family wasn't surrounded by winged Sprint Cars; they were surrounded by big block Modifieds just a few miles from home. Allentown, Pa., is east of the hotbed of winged Sprint Cars. Briggs' grandfather, Roy Danner, had the pizza stand at the local Nazareth (Pa.) Half-Mile Modified track in the 1970s and '80s and called his pizza "The Racers' Wedge." That same grandfather also raced Street Stocks at the local Modified tracks.

Kind of ironic that Danner won the BC 39 while Brady Bacon is racing Pa. Speedweek....
Danner & Macri are my 2 favorite drivers last few years...
