This is huge..

St. Clair County has decided who will run future races at the rebuilt Belle-Clair Speedway racetrack in Belleville.

At a special meeting Monday night, the St. Clair County Board signed an agreement leasing the quarter-mile dirt track to promoter WM Marketing, Inc.

St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern said the person behind that company is Curtis Francois, who owns World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison.

"This is going to be an exceptionally great thing," Kern said of the agreement. "They've helped us all along. They helped us design the facility and gave us a lot of advice, so it's natural to have these great people promote this track and be the ones who will run it."

Francois' company will now schedule and manage races in St. Clair County, starting with the first one on the new track on Aug. 1 during the revived County Fair. General admission race tickets are $23.50 and are available for purchase on the county website fairstclair.com.

Have heard it's pretty much a done deal! They just haven't announced it yet.

How big is this track? When I scale it on Google Maps, it measures about 1/4 mile around the outside wall. That's pretty small for a sprint car.

They are saying that it is a 1/4 mile track.  I have also seen comments that the track is very flat - also not ideal for sprint cars.

Here is the latest update (yesterday) from the Belleville News Democrat:

I was there once & it seemed pretty small, but it was cool. POWRi midgets & micro sprints or whatever they call them in that area.

I wonder how much they changed it?

Old covered wooden grandstands were great, but I might have heard they were going?

If they can run the Ditch in West Memphis they can run on that one too!

It's not the same race track.

It's not even on the same spot on the property.
