Richard Childress Racing has confirmed Kyle's passing.  What a shock.

Crazy!  Started to warm up to him over the past few years.  One of the few actual talents amongst a group of drivers without talent.

i can't pretend to be a fan for most of his career.  i never liked his attitude.  i'm old enough now to have seen several of these guys change as they got older...almost always for the better.  starting a family will do that to you.  we went to see kyle race with brexton at linda's speedway during 600 speedweek a couple years ago.  it said a lot about him that he was even willing to show up at a place like that.  i don't typically get pit passes but my son and i went back to the pits that night...and watching their family was something special.  i had my doubts about his wife and she seemed very genuine.  brexton seemed like a great kid in our limited interaction.  kyle signed some photos for us even though it was right after he barely missed the feature.

kyle's talent was never in question.  i would listen to dale jr. complain all race on the radio about his car.  kyle just always seemed to figure out how to be fast.  outside of jimmie johnson...he was the best driver in nascar over the last 20 years...and i'd probably take him over jimmie if they were starting side by side for 5 laps to go.

he will be missed and there are no words to describe how awful it is that he won't be able to enjoy retirement with his family.
