(Excerpt taken from Area Auto Racing News)

...One of the major factors in the decision to discontinue weekly Super Sprint racing was car counts over the last few years. By far, the Super Sprint car count dropped significantly. In 2007, the division averaged only 14 cars on a weekly basis, which was the lowest of any division. On at least three occasions, only nine cars were in competition.

Despite the decision to end weekly Super Sprint racing at Tri-City for the first time since the division first appeared at the track in the mid-1960s, track officials have not ruled out a special event in 2008.

One of the reason that the cars counts were low was the meager payout for the sprinters. The weekly show paid $1200 to win. When you factor in the fact that Tri-City was a Sunday night show, local cars running at Lernerville and/or Mercer/Sharon were likely to be too tired or too budget constrained by Sunday night to make the pull to Franklin for a rather meager purse.

And almost everyone tells me that Tri-City was a tire eating monster. so you had to win just to pay your tire bill.....

While it sucks to lose any sprint car shows, there are a lot of reasons here - and in my opinion, they are only reflected in the car count issue.
