We don't know that. What are the ratings and what are we comparing them to?
Dirt track racing is a niche sport, it's not going to edge out NASCAR, the NFL, the World Series, Survivor or the Bachelor in the ratings no mater how they package it. ;)

Well, since the WoO shows on ESPN were a time buy by DIRT and the production company, I don't know that the ratings really matter that much.
To those that don't know, a "time buy" is where the producer/production company buys the TV time from the network. The producers then sell ads and keep whatever they make to offset their costs, and hopefully make a few bucks......
I'm not sure of the Speed TV deal, though...
And Stan's right - we're dealing with a very focused sport; sprint car racing/dirt track racing really doesn't draw a large audience for TV.

The future of DIRT is dependent on the success of the revenues generated by the broadcasts. The revenue is generated by selling commercials. The ratings will determine the amount they earn on their broadcast. I think that makes the ratings fairly important. DIRT is not making any money on sanctioning.

Commerical revenues will NEVER make them any money, in fact they will be lucky to break even on production costs.
