Wasn't it summer up until just a few days ago?

That's the name of the race.  The Winter Nationals.  If you think that it should be renamed, maybe you should call Lanny Edwards and discuss it with him.  Just a little advance notice for you....there is a Winter Nationals at OKC this weekend, and next weekend at Devil's Bowl, now you won't have to worry about that when you see the results after this weekend, considering it still won't technically be "winter" after those two events either.

If it makes you feel better you moron, it did cool off quite a bit that evening. If this is all you have to bitch about, you must lead a boring life.

Just asking a question... thought it must have been a misprint. Hey if you, they, whoever want to to call it the "winter" nationals a few days after summer, more power to ya

No misprint. It has for several years (since the 70's) been called the "Winternationals" in our area.

I don't know about you, or where you are from, but I will tell you for your information. Our schools are in session. We tend to end our season so that we may concentrate on our children's education, sports, and extracurricular activities.

We also have the tendency to raise our children with respect of others, and to have manners. After all if you were to sit across from the table from one of our kids, you will most likely notice they chew with their mouth closed, and they not only use, but know what a napkin is.

In all fairness many got tired of freezing their butts off when shows were closer to winter. Enid was notorious for this.

I've attended some of those butt freezing races in Dallas (oops - Mesquite) and Lawton, Ok. It might not be officially winter, but I don't think races around Christmas would go over very well here. So I guess the "Spring Nationals" in March should be called the Winter Nationals...

why do my fellow okies insult this guy? I didn't really see anything insulting or offensive......kind of a small joke at worst. why not just tell him why the "winter nationals" are run so early in the fall? instead of unjustly insulting the guy............

to answer the original statement. Lanny Edwards owns or operates 3 race tracks........the last race of the year at these tracks are annually known as the Winter Nationals. Nothing to do with the temperature.......lol.......more to do that at that track it is their last race of the year - hence last race before the oncoming winter........winter nationals. Lanny begins with spring nationals and concludes with winter nationals. Really I think from Sept. 29th on there is a winter nationals every weekend in the state. and it kinda works out so that no 2 tracks run the same weekend - or try not to. Thats not to say there isn't mutiple races going on......as this weekend there are quite a few big ones in the state. Enid is running USMTS, OKC is runnin their winter nationals, and MAS (Coffeyville) is runnin the final 2 ascs sooner region shows. Finally, at the moment it's actually unseasonably warm. about 10 degrees above average. more times than not - here in Oklahoma we are receiving series of cold fronts that bring storms around this time. I've seen the high in the 50's around this time of year before. so for Lanny it's probably weather - not to mention football (local or collegiate). Lanny could run more races - but how profitable it would be to run later in the year has to be taken into consideration. brian26 is right - the weather here is very unpredictable this time of year ..............

David Jones.......the irony of your post is baffling..........he wasn;t bitching.........he was wandering about something that seemed odd to him. please tell me where miledirtfan's post deserved your response..................? had you have just met that guy while in another state or something and he asked you that - surely you wouldn;t have been so insulting...............

Kudos to Lanny Edwards...

Have to be thankful for any promoter who works hard for dirt track racing, especially the open wheel stuff these days.

Honestly CCC, how many times have you seen me post anything real serious? To answer your question, I might give that kind of response to someone depending on the situation. Just jacking with them. Sorry to you and him if it upset you. Holy crap people are sensitive around here. By the way, do you have your Chuck Swenson shirt washed up for Dallas? Oh yeah, he can't run that race. Sorry forgot.(by the way.....just kidding)

LOL. LOL. LOL. aw shit now that's a good one..............lol.

sorry man I didn;t know you were jokin...........didn;t upset me........I just thought it deserved an honest answer. But now that Chuck Swenson comment will have me laughing for awhile.

But I don't wear that shirt......seriously......lol.........Tanner does. And man he wears it with pride. Hopefully he starts substituing that shirt witht he 360 Nationals shirt he got this year. I told him that the next time we see Swenson race we should go down to his trailer and ask him to erase his name....or just take the shirt back. or just leave em there. lol I don;t know..........but everytime someone mentions that and then I see Tanner show up to sfs wearing that shirt.......I laugh my ass off.

thats good stuff David..................
