Now Holtz is off somewhere shoveling cow stuff and Skippy is in another state getting on other peoples nerves.

My question is this, if not for message boards and the free access to post what you think, what happens at racetracks and what is said there, would you know about what goes on on race nights or would you even care? And this goes with every message board out there (and there are tons) that talk about race tracks and drivers. It is just not here and not just at Fairgrounds Speedway (SFS) but everywhere. You take one rained out Friday or Saturday night off and browse this WWW of ours and you will be amazed at what you read about tracks, drivers, etc. While it is nice to air out your opinions and your thoughts and get differences settled on the net instead of in person, you have to wonder if messages boards are more problems then they are worth.

This message board is mild compared to others that are out there. Here you can kinda tell who is posting and the knowledge that they have. Others you wonder if they are taking their medication or something.

to answer your first question David. I'd have to say NO. I've met some pretty cool people and heard a whole lot of opinions on this here message board. they may not always be the best opinions......but there were a lot of locked in opinions I had that after I heard other opinions - just didn't make much sense to me anymore. And I like that. I have no problem admitting it when I'm wrong. And I am a lot. But it's cool because you learn more from it all. The 2 worst problems at SFS in my opinion - and most of you know what I think they are (rulebook and respect) I would have not known much about w/o talkin with different people involved with the racing here.

But what I find most important to say is this..........David I know what you're talkin about when you mention message boards causing more harm than good. And I don't think I can exclamate this point enough...........I don't see those problems on this message board much. The message board I've seen most of it was the Tulsa one. And the problems 9 times out of 10 are people airing their dirty - and VERY PERSONAL - dirty laundry over the net. There were a lot of things posted about Creek that easily could have changed a bystanders opinion of it. I think this forum is different because of the members of it. There are still dumb posts - but usually there aren't a bunch of stupid responses to those posts...again like there have been on the tulsa forum. Usually the thoughts and opinions posted on this forum are not personal towards anyone or anything. I dont think what many of us post about the local promoter is really all that negative, or maybe its just that it's not as false. But most posts involve thoughts on how it can be done better.

ok well in short what I was meaning was that I don't think this forum hardly ever has negative effects. In fact, of the few I frequent it's probably the best. And I applaud all the people on here for that.

and forums can serve good purposes too. One cool dude on the tulsa forum has tried to start what is titled a "championship point fund" for factory stocks around the state........and all of that started right on a forum. well most of it probably. and it's a good idea with what seems like good intent.

Yes, this message board is mild compared to others. A couple of years ago it did have some posters that wanted to be nasty towards other people, but they are gone now. I haven't seen very many negative posts this year. My true opinion about it and the people who post-It's like a big family. Of course many of them are related, and have known each other for years. Some of the people (like me) have been around for years, but don't say much and not very many people actually know who I am....kind of like extended family. They come here and express their opinions, anger, whatever, to get it out of their system, then come Friday/Saturday night all is usually pretty good. What family doesn't have a few problems every now and then? Fortunately most on here are civil enough to discuss their differences in a decent manner. It's a lot better than steaming on an issue and someone blowing up one night at the track.

I admit, I don't like how things are going this year with the tracks. Discussing it here is a good thing. That way all the drivers, fans, ect. can discuss what they don't like and figure out what can be done. Lanny has been a hot topic this year. He's a business owner, and what do most business owners do after so many years. They like to kick back and let someone else take over running things while they go play golf or something and still collect the profits. Isn't that the point on being a business owner? To make good money for yourself, and hopefully get to a point to enjoy life. Not sure, but I have been getting the impression that he's been trying to find someone capable to run the tracks for him. Either way he has to since he can't be at all of them every night. That's the big problem. He's at one track and whoever he puts in charge at one of the other tracks isn't capable of handling things or just really doesn't care. Think about it...it's hard to find decent employees even for a McDonald's drive thru. All that can be done, is everybody get together and figure out what the problems are exactly, sit down and discuss it Lanny to figure out a solution.

christina,

You have offered the best post yet on this topic. Leave it to a girl to keep us dumb boys in line. Of course, you know we need all the help we can get.
