Actually Muskogee Speedway last ran in April 2003. The sale has been approved and completed to Charlie Fulton. They haven't done a thing yet to the speedway though. I drove by there last week. The track in Sallisaw was called Sooner Speedway. Other old tracks were a track in Roland called Sequoyah County Speedway in the early 60's, a track in Moffett, Oklahoma (near Fort Smith) in the 60's, a joke of a track in Muldrow called Cherokee Chief's Speedway that ran only for about a month in 1989. And there was a track called Yahola Speedway nearby Taft which is nearby Muskogee that raced in the 50's.

Oklahoma has an incredible racing history, probably starting with the Land Run. (Did anybody tech the buckboards?)
That's a good one Galen.LOL

Someone mentioned the two tracks at Goldsby, the newer one was I-35 Speedway which was built across the highway and north of the old Goldsby track. Use to have some good racing and good times there. Last time I drove by it was a vacant field.

I looked at aerial images looking for all those tracks. I thought I found dirt tracks near all those towns, but I noticed there are tons of what appear to be horse training tracks also. It was tough to tell the difference.

The track in Roland is totally gone and I think the one in Moffett is too. Relative to the one in Yahola I've talked to someone who said they walked it not too awful long ago but I could never find it on TerraServer or Google Earth. I've driven by the area it was at recently and didn't have any luck seeing it from the road. I understand the one in Muldrow is still very intact but on Google Earth a lot of the country areas are still very blurry and unclear but more over time are getting clearer satellite pictures but I've not had luck finding it. I went to a race there in 1989 but can't remember where it was. I just recall it was way out in the country. I understand the Sallisaw track is still somewhat visible from the road (turn 1 and 2) but that the track was almost totally intact until 2-3 years ago owner had bulldozed most of it. Also there was a track called Cimarron Speedway west of Tulsa around Keystone Lake that ran briefly in 1991. The neighbors got it shut down. I believe this is the satellite picture of this track.

I also wanted to add that at the Racing From the Past website there are some photos from the Roland track. And it is hard to tell around the Sallisaw area and towards Fort Smith what are horse training tracks because of Sallisaw's Blue Ribbon Downs horse racing track. Also another track was a small quarter mile track in Grove called Grand Lakes Speedway that ran in the early-mid 80's. Also one thing that I've always wondered about, why so many different tracks in Altus at one time or another?

You can still see the Cimarron Speedway booth and catch fence from the the Cimarron turnpike. Its west of the bridge that crosses the lake.

Unfortunately, we can't go look at the old stockyards coliseum as it burned down several years ago. I like to go to where tracks use to be and just sit and try to imagine, to see if I can see some sort of glimps of the track.
My friend Chris Smith told me once while we were passing through on I-35 that Thackerville had a track and he says you could still see part of the lighting and stuff.
As discusssed several years ago when this topic was posted and discussed, I had always heard that there was to be a track built in Guthrie but didn't think it ever broke ground.
Sozo, guess it was 2001 when ASCS sooner region was scheduled to race at the track way down southeast. I had stopped there at the track on my way to Paris Motor Speedway on the ASCS national tour at the time and that track you were talking about wasn't that bad of a track and not as redneck as you would think. It was pretty well banked, especially in turns one and two. But two weeks later they had cancelled the show.
With all that has been written to this point and hopefully more to be written, can you name the oldest, active track in the state of Oklahoma?

According to my dad the track in Guthrie was built. He said that he's seen the track and that my cousin helped with it. My dad has shown me from I-35 where the track use to be. He said that he doesn't know if there were ever any races ran there or not. My cousin might know, though. If I can remember the next time I see him I'll ask him about it.
Anyway, this thread is interesting. I've never heard of the track in Nashoba, OK. The mention of it got me thinking and wondering if there are any other lesser known tracks in Oklahoma (not listed in David's Track Directory) that are still running or have only recently within the last few years quit running? Anybody know of any more?

This is more than I expected from starting this thread. To me, my best racing memories were from the 70's and 80s when the classes were late models and supers on the 1/2 mile and street stocks and modifieds on the 1/4. I guess we can add SFS 1/2 mile to the list of "tracks of the past"........

My understanding on racing in Guthrie is there was a Four Seasons Raceway that raced in 1966 and in the late 70's there was a track called Circle A Speedway. The one in the 70's I heard didn't last very long (a month maybe?). It seems like I also heard that if a car there went off the track it was a severe drop off.

I have put together a website.....www.freewebs.com/forgottentracks if you know of any other tracks that I could access or gather photos and history of please let me know and I'll be more than happy to post it. Also if you have any photos from the tracks posted and would be willing to let me use the photos I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm currently working on getting more information on Sallisaws Sooner Speedway track, so if you have any info just let me know!

If I recall, and I think my dad said it was the track in Sallisaw, I do have a story from that race. We lived in Sallisaw for a year or so before we moved to MWC in 1969. I remember one night there was a crash and they kept racing. One thing I remember most about that race was the announcer saying, " Don't worry folks, that driver isn't from around here" and they kept racing.
