If you think Lanny wants less cars in the pits then you dont know Lanny. More cars = more money
|
True more cars=more money (at the gate) but that also means he has to pay more down the pay scale at the end of the night.

We had 49 sports mod show up for our 2000.00 to win show @ Elk. Not sure what Enid had but can tell you it was close to that also. And we too, pulled all the way to Aztec this spring and all we had to do was change gears and adjust the carb and we were good to go.
I feel that staying with what works and is already induced in the area is the way to go every one wins in that respect. When you can go anywhere in Texas, New Mexico or Louisiana and race and be competitive then somethings SO right with the IMCA rules even if they aren't a sanctioned track.... Elk started out with the SIMS rules and that lasted all of 1 year. WHY ? because you couldn't pull out of town cars... really simple. Run the same rules as everyone else and they will come.
Last year we had 30 sports Mods for our big show this year we had 49. You do the Math.
First year we started with 6 next year we had 12 to 15 every night, 3rd year we had 15 to 18 every night, this year we were pulling in 20 to 22 cars. If everyone registered would show up at the same time it would be B features every night.
Enid has the same amount of cars at their track too. So if even half of the guys pulled to OKC every Friday from just those 2 tracks, there's a full field of cars.
We have had guys from Flag Staff, Arizona and Monroe, Louisiana pull to Elk to race. It works when you stop and think about it.

I feel that they should run Elk City-Enid rules also, which are IMCA type rules simply because guys from Elk and Enid goes to IMCA sanction tracks in Texas for the big races without having to have a bunch of changes to go. All any of them have to do is change gears depending on track size and go race. and be competitive with all the others that show up.
We've been to Waco and they had a car count of 86 Sports Mods last year for their Super Nationals, the best of the best goes there every year and it is awesome.
Amarillo, Lubbock, Ark-la-teck, Tyler, Greenville, ect. all run the same rules. Way more Texas tracks run by the IMCA type rules than the Sims rules. Bigger car counts also.
I feel that if there is going to be a NCRA series for these cars then all should be compatible with whats already established as the standard for these cars....... Ardmore also runs the same rules as Elk and Enid do. And having a place to go race on Friday night has been something that alot of Elk drivers have been waiting for.
Enid and Elk have a big car count, and we have gone to Lawton and raced too, when Elk is rained out or not running......
Get the rules in line with the norm and they will come.... big car counts... side by side racing..... equal motors..... excitement for the fans.... Our fans here love this class on any given night anyone can win.... but you have to tech the crap out of them to keep it equal.

If Enid and Elk City are having that kind of car count for a $2000-$2500 sport mod show, what kind of car count do you guys think a $10,000 to win sport mod show would bring in?

This WOULD NOT be a very good idea!!!
The payout for the limited modifieds at the Enid show this year was absolutely perfect! $500.00 to start and the payouts got better with each position, all the way up to $2,500.00 to win!!!
If you put up a huge number to win (but pay 6th - 24th) the same amount, then you will have a smaller car count. The Enid people should know this from their last big show. Just as many limiteds as modifieds but paid back better(per pay scale) in the limiteds.
I would guess that if Enid was to pay the modifieds $5,000.00 to win and pay back better to each position, then they would see the car count go up for that show also.
I just believe that there are alot of guys who do not go to the big shows when finishing last pays the same as 6th or 7th place. Maybe you could even sign up some contingency sponsors, lap lead money, long tow money, hard charging money, and maybe even a dash for cash!!!
These are just a few ideas that other tracks are using and having great car counts at their show and i just wanted to pass them on to whoever may want to hear them!!!
I'm just a true dirt track fan that has hopes for the biggest races to happen somewhere in Oklahoma!!!!!

It seems to work for the street stock nationals, on average 100 cars. I would just like to see some big money races in other classes as well.

Well i'm a common sense type of person and would be willing to bet that this year the car count will be down quite of bit. This will be for a couple of reasons; 1) The street stock class is almost obsolete 2)the tracks at amarillo and lubbock doesnt run the class no more and them guys made up a big part of the Enids field. 3) haven't seen a car from the batesville area here in years(now the only other track to have a major street stock show) 4) fuel prices are up and probably going higher with the hurricane in the gulf.
All of these reasons lead me to believe that this might be the last year of the street stock nationals, I hope I'm wrong but I just try and look at it with common sense!!!
I believe in order to have a SUCCESSFUL BIG SHOW these days a track must be sure that the class is very strong in their state, the show must pay back very well, and there cant be any scheduling conflicts!!!!!
GOOD LUCK TO THE STREET STOCK NATIONALS ( i hope they prove me wrong )

JAYDAD37, We know each other, how about a little side bet that we have as many as last year? If not more. Say $50.00.

I don't know how many you had last year but I would be willing to bet $50.00 that you do not reach 100 cars!!!
I hate to do it because I like to pull for the track but I'm confident that there will not be 100 street stocks racing at Enid Speedway for this show!!!!!!
So, if you wanna make that bet(100 cars racing at the show) I will!!!

I think you should take in consideration that these "STREET STOCKS" that will be there are going to be anything from what were or are, pure stocks, factory stocks, street stocks, pro stocks, late models and whatever else they are called in other areas......you can count on that..........I think $10.000 will bring um in......Anyone else want to make that same bet????
