This the design previous to these cars. The roll cages were alike from 1980-1984. I have found the toprails to be either straight(possible reclip), or bent down over the front axle(the way I remember them).

And then it gets even more radical after 1989/1990 for what we saw from Nance.
How can you sit there and tell people there was 'no design change'(on a previous thread) in the 1980's when we know better?

Got that #501 Mario Fuentes look to me from El Paso. New Mexico that would be close. Probably a Phoenix/Stanton connection.

I've only seen one Fuentes chassis up close, and yes they did look like the cage on the square black super.
Didn't Trostle have a serial number marking on his cars?

Talked to Bob last night he said the car was built in 1974 for a guy named Don Gay. He was in the service in El Paso and ran the car down there. One of the last cars build with a bolt-on cage, its a 90 inch wheel base car.

A 1974 Bob Trostle Chassis #160 built Feb. 20, 1974. A 4 bar car, 90" wheel base, super modified bolt on roll cage. This car was built for Don Gray of El Paso, Texas. I brought the car on E- Bay Feb. 2005 in Cheyenne, Wy. Restored by Bob McCall, Owner; Complete with some of the original dirt and a thanks to Lynn Anderson of Concordia, Kansas for his help.

Yellow and black my favorite colors. If I ever had of got a race car to the track (now that I think back what a scary thought that would have been) it would have been yellow and black in some form. #99 or 55 would have been my numbers. Todd has created a beauty hasn't he! I think he got it in a basket sort of.

Here is another car (the yellow 44) that looks familier. It looks like the old number 5 that Herb Lobdell ran in '69 and '70 in OKC. If my memory serves me, Herb sold that car to Mike Bassett in '73 or '74. Didn't Richard Powell from Enid run a car that looked similar to this one?
Thanks to all that replied to my earlier question about the 90" Trostle car from El Paso. I didn't realize there were any 90" supers around.

I believe the Arizona crowd may have run 90"ers to. Albuquerque ran them too but they may have ran the 100" like Herrera ran with the NCRA. Some of these were also fuel injected if I remember right. I'm sure that is the Richard Powell car he drove.

Arizona had some supers that had a 100 inch wheelbase and some that did not. I never did know their rules but I think it was at the NCRA race at Tulsa in October of 76 or 77, George Armstrong's owners Noel Crain and Danny Thurman bought a used super from Stanton that had been run in Phoenix. We all went down to look it over and they said thy spent the week getting their engine in it and did not have time to paint or change the sponsors logos. I teased Noel about one of logo, it was Mable's Massage Parlour and he laughed and said he wished that he had put duct tape over it

I qwn the 44 car now. I was informed shortlyafter I got it by HISTORIAN Mike Pogue that thecar was actually built in 1966 for Herb to Drive. I have had seveal emails from Herb with pictures. He said he finished 5th in points in OKC in 1967. It was a super then, When Richard Powell drove it it was a 6 cylinder. Clark Racer

Wow, thanks for the info! I guess my eyes aren't so bad after all. Would enjoy seeing those pictures that Herb sent you! The one Herb drove in 1970 looked very similar...was it a 'twin' of your car?

Found this picture of Herb's 1967 car on the site above that Mark Brotherton hosts. The site is a tribute to SFS 50th Anniversary...nice pics on the site too.
