It wouldn't be a show car if it was done exactly like it was in the 60's. All that chrome etc. As some old truckers would tell me, all that chrome and polished aluminum I had on my trucks didn't make more money or make it run faster. I'll bet the same holds true to race cars, but wow do they look fast.

I would believe a reproduction may have been needed. After Greg left for USAC Jay Woodside drove it. The last that I heard of the car was that Jay rolled it. If it had been the original 92 that would have meant that the first three Jayhawk Nationals cars would still exist. The only early nationals cars still around are the first winner the #4 of Bill Corwin and the third winner the #1 of Don Elliott. I am not sure at what stage the #4 is in. The #1 is near complete. Looking at the Layne car (81) at Topeka Fairgrounds looks to have been built off of the early Weld blueprints.

Another Shot

Remember use all talking a few weeks ago about the first Fiberglass car in the area ,,this may be the the car...

I take my hat off to Layne and friends who put this together ..I seen this cars original run many of its races ..Of corse most of thee time is seen it ,,it was covered by mud because it was running hard with Greg Weld at the wheel...Fantastic job guys sure brings back the memorys.

Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

Going thru the records I knew that there should have been an articule as to when Greg Weld brought out the roadster. It was in June 1962.
