to somewhat edit that without re-writing it (need to get to bed). I posted about the purse being 800 to win. I think I mis-understood. If I read correctly before - ya'll would apply NCRA purse if applicable. This would seem to make it somewhat better sell as a series.
I just can't get my mind around it tho. This strikes a chord because I have a lot of thoughts pertaining to the 360 vs. 410 idea. I think a lot of what people think is out dated. I will admit - I haven't seen a lot of 410 shows - those I have seen were in Knoxville. They were really good. But thats my point. I haven't seen the huge clear cut differences. I see the difference in lap times and speed. It's not THAT much. I would think - as drivers attest to - there is a big difference in racing them. But thats not the angle I think of.
If I lived in Ohio or other states where 410's were actually prevalent - I would like them more. I do not dis-like them as it is. I just can't get my mind around them coming to an area that is fundamentally 360 turf - and because they want to make their dough - but can't actually bring anything that would be worth them making their dough - they want 360's to fill the field. I see why in many cases drivers do it. I see it clearly. I just can't imagine how a respectable SERIES that runs 360 sprints - would go run as field fillers and roadblocks to a series that outside of 410 hotspots - is very overrated. I think NCRA can - and does - stand on its own 2 feet and shine. I guess there is another aspect I should consider. If most the NCRA cars want to go run it - then I could understand NCRA as a series wanting to sanction it and make some money off it. Business wise - I can understand that.
I'm no one to answer to. No one that it really matters what I understand or don't. I just don't like this idea at all. can't stand it. I think if NCRA ran a 2 day show at Dodge for half the purse the WoO does - it would be a better show 10 times over. I truly believe that. Especially after the 1st - and only - 3/8ths mile Nationals at Dodge back in - I think it was 2005. That was a great race - even better because Danny Jennings literally out raced Gary Wright and won.
But the sad truth really is that the stands were not loaded for such a great race. And this race didn't just turn out to be great - you could easily beforehand that it was going to be loaded. But - the myth is still there that the 410's/WoO are automatically better than everything else. Granted, more and more are seeing that its false - that it's all good if you have a good turnout and good track. But still - so many are willing to be raped at the ticketbooth to see doughboys like Schatz. Yeah he's great. But I would really like to see the top 20 360 drivers in this country get a 3 year shot in the same ride with the same financial backing. thats neither here nor there tho. just a personal opinion. Bottom line to me is seeing the best RACE. I don't care if it's Knoxville or I-44. ASCS National or ASCS2. Just the best RACE.
In an area that NCRA absolutely dominates - I can't understand why they would want to run in such piggyback fashion to the WoO. Because in the end - the WoO would get the recognition for a show that wouldn't be possible without 360's. When NCRA alone with a lil boosted purse could put on a better show than the WoO (in this area of the country of course lol).
I'm done ranting. Sorry if I offend anyone. It's not my intent. I really like NCRA and the people that work for the series and many of its drivers as well. just sharing my op. I think it all really sucks. would like to see NCRA put on a big show there at Dodge sometime (or Jetmore - thats a good track). Me and my family been lookin for an excuse to get back up that way. Hope maybe this year or sometime soon it can be a high quality 360 race.
