I believe that maps3 and the speedway do correlate with one another. Im willing to bet if it passes that the speedway will have its last season in 2010. I truly hope it fails, Im from Enid and have seen some awesome racing at SFS over the years. I have called all my friends in the OKC area to let them know to vote no. This maps3 has to fail, then everyone must come together and donate time and material to bring this place up to code. Im a painter, by trade, and know quite a bit about all aspects of buildings. I will help in any manner that Im able.
Sincerely,
Jayson Ellis

You are dead wrong in your assumption. The city as been sued by a firm that I believe does a alot of ADA lawsuit work. MAPS 3 could be deafted by 100% and it does not change the law suit against the city to bring the grandstand up the code. If anything you should want MAPS 3 to pass so the city would have extra money to spend on the grandstand, but that will not happen as the grandstand is not in the long term plans of the fair board. Do not get caught up in MAPS 3, its the lawsuit and the court that has the power.

You make a very good point with the courts. Whats crazy is only a hand full of people have voted on the poll above and its pretty much 50/50 on a racing forum.

My issue is the stated intentions of the location of the 'new' convention center as shown in the Business section of The Sunday Oklahoman (april, 2009).
NOW, they say the convention center is "downtown". Is the Fairground considered downtown? Why doesn't someone show an actual plan as to EXACTLY where the new convention center is to be?

I understand what you are stating and it makes sense, except for the part where you say one has nothing to do with the other.....
Because the speedway is not in the longterm plans of things, I would be willing to bet that if maps3 passes the speedway will be the first thing to go through demolition. All the people that are affilliated with construction could come together and donate time and material and bring the grandstand up to ADA code. This isn't impossible, just improbable. Again, I'm willing to donate my time to help bring the grandstands up to code. I don't want to get into a pissing contest with anyone here, I just dont want to see another awesome track gone because of poiltics. We in Enid have already got screwed out of enjoying racing here next year and the top 10 from each class, this past season, got screwed out of the jackets and trophies but thats a whole different story. I'm just willing to help if I can.
Sincerely,
Jayson Ellis

The question isnt "If" it's going to close, it's "when"! 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 Lanny does have an option on the lease but it's year to year and has to be approved. I dont think there is even confromation on next year yet and probably wont be until after the vote. If maps 3 passes if bad for the speedway and if it dosent its bad for the speedway as well. They'll blame the racers for its defeat and shut it down anyway. They wont tear it down too soon though, they dont want to spend the $$$ to do that. I agree with Kenny though It's the lawsuit that will determine the future.
