I added a couple more photos to the NCRA gallery. A second photo of both Mike Peters and Jon Johnson, also a lower grade photo of both Bob Ewell and Emmett Hahn.

I am happy to see some of these photos generated some great discussion of racing from the past.

I just seen what Jon said on the other forum. I'm pretty sure that Ford powered car that Jerry is standing by was a Parsons. I know I remember reading that when the car came out in 78 I think. I couldn't tell the difference between any of them I don't think??

When I was looking for the Suchy 76, I had so many leads that came no where close, add that with all of the unexpected education on old race cars I had no idea of which was coming, and still does. I once had what I thought was proof enough that it was destroyed, yet now there is a person with contention of repute that HE has the original red and white 76.

The guys that drove these cars to win did very little documentation, if any. Today, quite a few of us see the design of the rollcage as a huge signature of it's pedigree. This thing of hunting parts, cars, information- it's just as hard as any other old race car collective.

HERE'S WHERE IT GETS FUN- OUR collective is filled with designs that were short runs of altered copies of other altered copies! Few builders kept one style for very long, and it takes a lot of footwork to find a cars history in this thing of ours.

It gets crazier still-

Moral of the story,

Don't hold it against yourself, we're all learning and our egos are being gutchecked daily. My luck is that ONCE YOU'VE BECOME CONVINCED that the picture in question is actually a Jelly, someone will have proof that it is a Parson with a Jelly cage! Happens all the time. Fiction is never this intriguing.

AMEN Brian, a good while back,I bought a old frame.When i got it, i didn't have a clue what it was.I'm in Ohio and someone brought 3 frames back to Pa.,one of which i bought. After a ebay purchase from someone in OK,they turned me on to the tidbit forum.I posted and got a response.Lonnie Wheatly said it was a car he ran and it was a Rich chassis.I never thought I would find out anything about the car.So I keep posting/asking/etc.  I'm not sure how I got talking to David Grace, but he worked for Suchey and said they ran a Rich chassis that Carson,Hahn and Sewell raced.The clincher was that it had a patch on the left front bottom frame rail.So I go check...THERE WAS A PATCH THERE! I was estatic! I believed that was the car.There were pics on Warrens website which David told me about and there it was! David sent me some pics as well. Same color frame and all. I don't know why,but i took a pic of the patch and sent it to David.He said that was the wrong area.WHAT?? I had a pic of the car as it was at Paul Martens before its trip north.On the back of the pic was the name Gary Flatt.So I set out to find Gary,eventually found him through a board and he called me.He told me it was originally a Danny Wood car.Then it became a Sonic # 2 car that first Alvin Brasier drove then Gary drove.I contacted Alvin and on a trip to OKC met him.He had pics of the car and wouldn't you know, one pic clearly showed the "patch".So your right Brian, sometime you can dig too far.But hey, having a car with those guys history ain't too shabby either. I would never want to represent a car to be something its not and thats why facts are so important.In my mind,I still think that car pictured is a Jelly car.Some may say "how petty,whats the difference"?  Its important for me to know as i'm responsible now for its representation.Three people I talked to in depth say it is Jelly, now there is some dispute.I also know its easy to be foggy about history thats 25+ years old.I just don't want to have any doubts.I don't mean to be argumentive or disrespectful to anyone.I really appreciate boards like Warren and David Smith have and the folks who contribute to it.So much history would be lost otherwise.I have met some really nice people.Incidently, would anyone have any pictures when Danny Wood ran the Rich chassis car as a white # 55? thanks, Ron Cubic

Yeah, this is what I mean,

I came in like I knew it all well enough to "correct" those that didn't know better, BOY WAS I IN FOR A SURPRISE! Turned out my photographic memory wasn't up to par like I thunk!

Go look at the other supermodified groups out there, you will find that ours were fast, inventive for the times, and most important of all (when they are no longer competitive, or worth a whole lot) these cars were DOWNRIGHT PURTY! Our Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas region and those states that shared our thing, had awesome cars. Here are the ones that also had nice cars

1. Oswego- after 1970 (IMO)

2. So. Cal., West Capitol

3. Arizona, Manzanita

4. El Paso

Granted there were nice cars everywhere, but as a whole, after looking at thousands of pictures, talking with hundreds of people, I KNOW we have a special history here when it comes to Open Wheel tradition.

They were "take no quarter" cars with a raw yet refined punch of style.
