These cars used sometype of transmission, we didn't have shifter QC rear ends in these days. Brandon has already stated how similar these cars are to todays sprint cars but really I think there alot more similar to a modified, man I wish we had some of the driveline set-up you guys use in mods!!!
When these cars were bad fast in the dry they were healed over on the RR and carrying the LF about a foot off the ground.

I threw some more technical pictures in here. If you're interested, I have a few more I'll throw in.
Funny thing is, although you can't change the power of the industry, these are actually easier to build than the present day modified. I've heard they feel 'bout the same too when it comes to driving.

Brian, I wouldnt know a thing about building them then or today. They look simple enough though.
But on another note, just wanted to thank you for the time it took to get these pics. I love lookin at old race cars and seeing where we came from. Just wanted to say, and i bet i speak for alot of people here, THANKS!!!

Actually, the simplicity is part of the spell. You go, you watch, later on you find yourself saying "i can do that".
Hate to admit it. I pirate my pics mostly from the web like many people. I love these cars, love the stories, and find these people I have watched off and on all my life to be very interesting.
What you're seeing is an obsessive compulsive nut who doesn't know how to stop! Long as it's a good crowd that doesn't mind.

It's amazing how similar these are to todays cars.

Although not the first 4-bar car here in our region, an early one at that. This is Jiggs Founds '76 Nance without the body panels.

Another interesting tidbit here. For a time, several years only--- There was an oppurtunity for the best of our regions drivers to compete with the best drivers in Indianapolis.
The playing field was level when the Champ Dirt Cars of USAC were racing somewhere. Their cars were very similar to ours under the skin. The Hoosier Hundred was the biggest non-outlaw dirt show of the year and it paid well enough to prove it.
One day in 1974, Oklahoma was well represented by a Tulsan. If he got his graduates degree in driving on dirt from USAC, well then he got his bachelors degree right here!

This car is numbered after a notorious stag bar in Wichita Falls, it was a shrine to Lloyd Ruby,

Turns out the 42 was powered by a turbo-charged Offy(4 cylinder). It apparently held it's own against the DOHC V8 Fords behind it. Don't know where this car is but it'd be cool to have it there! Most recent report is it now has an sbc in it. The Offy was too much on the upkeep expense I guess.

These are the Dual Overhead Cam Fords and the drivers. Mario and Al. Notice the lack of nerf-bars. Back in the day, supers were loosely patterned from cars like these which had an ancestry going back through the Indy 500. Ironicly, the last Indy 500 won by a car of this type was won by an Oklahoma born(Woodward) racer, Troy Ruttman in 1952.

Thanks yardfun. Do they have that spot marked?

Here's a car I have wished to do for 30 years. Just needed a reason and a season to do it. My Uncles car. It appears to be a Nance copy. The more I learn, the more I realize I know little about these cars!
It's a cross between an Edmunds and a Nance style deal. I used the separate cowling piece because I like the idea of making an effort to seal the firewall from the drivers compartment as best I can.

Since my Uncle likes an Edmunds tail and I like the Nance tail here, Looks like I may be doing an Edmunds tail too. I tried the Edmunds first but the proportions just didn't strike me the same. I like
the rear of the top to be 1"-2" forward of the centerline of the rear axle.

They had a Troy Ruttman Day a couple of years ago, But the sad thing about it, Troy had passed away a few weeks or a few months earlier. I believe they still had it though.

Yes, It is marked. They have replaced this original sign with smaller but appropriate signage at the outskirts of town. Troy is buried in the cemetary on the north edge of Mooreland. I attended the Troy Ruttman day in 1996. Troy was completely aware of the event and was planning to attend but passed away from cancer a couple weeks before the big day. He and his family moved to CA when Troy was very young (1-2 years old). They remained very close with their Okla family members through the years and visited often. On one trip through with
Agijanians 98JR sprint car. Troy unloaded it and ran up and down main street of Mooreland a couple times.

Dig this! This one is for the Lloyd Ruby Invitational at Wichita Falls but I'm sure they can be done also for this show as well. We all love these stickers from the old days,
