not trying to argue, but..... if jholz says they found nothing in the rules to substanciate the mulligan.....

i guess i could go over the rules with a magnifying glass, but am just lazy right now!

Just trying to help out. I'm not sure if the rule is that way now - but it was not to long ago.

Was Shatz "interfered with" on his second lap too? Cause I'm pretty sure it sucked too with no other cars on the track. Steve Kinser felt that it was the wrong call ( and I agree ). Its the King's Royal and emotions were high. Also, there were other drivers with Steve when he was "chatting" with the officials. I'm not specifically a Steve Kinser fan, but I feel he was right in expressing his opinion on the call made by the officials.

I'm not a driver, but I have noticed that some drivers tend to run 2 separate lines on a 2-lap qualifying night to see which one is faster. Let's say Schatz wanted to run the bottom on the first lap because he thought from hot laps that is was the quickest, got interfered with, so ran the bottom for the second lap because he thought that would be the quickest way around and didn't get to run the line he wanted to on the first try. When he went back out for his mulligan, he ran the high side like he had planned to for his second lap. Is that even possible? I'm just a girl and all, but I felt like I confirmed it at Knoxville last night while watching some of the more experienced drivers.

you are a girl, but not a dumb one! i had stated the same thing in another thread, or at least the same idea. yes a driver may choose to try two different lines. still the question remains as to who made the call for the extra lap and why it was done as it was. were you not monitoring the woo at the royal?

I was monitoring and they brought up the interference what seemed like before the first lap completed. Then they discussed whether or not he got another lap and decided to wait to see if he asked for it. Kind of like Knoxville last night when the first set of 410 hot laps didn't get up to qualifying speed and we were in a hurry up to beat the rain mode. Cappy said the first flight could have another set of hot laps if they asked for it, but everyone went to their pits. Second flight ran theirs and qualifying began. Why isn't anyone on here complaining because the first flight didn't get to go back out? Just because they didn't ask for it doesn't mean they shouldn't have gotten it. I will say there were 2 other cars that could have had another lap at the Royal for the same reason if they had asked for it, but never requested one at the scales.

I was just responding to the whole 2 laps on the bottom and switching to the top for the mulligan idea. It's all a big conspiracy, right?

ok, i read the 2008 rules. these rules i have were put out at the start of the season so any amendments that may have been added since then are not included. i see nothing that even remotely addresses the idea of a driver being able to request an additional lap for any reason. i also see nothing that remotely addresses any interfearance procedure regarding qualifying. again i see nothing in writing that states anything about a driver being allowed an addtional qualifying lap weather he is required to ask or not before being granted one. any comments?

I read that also. Sure hope they put something in there. It definately needs to be. This was not a good situation to have happened.
