Because his cat has fleas?
If you meant Big Cat, isn't his sponsor Arctic Cat?
|
I think he said in a Winged Nation interview that a friend of his gave him the nickname, but it makes little sense to me.

How does the Bug Cat connect to Sweet?
|
Guessing auto correct catches another and you meant Big Cat. He has told a story a couple times that it is a reference from a MTV show called Rob & Big. Not important if you didn't follow the show or know the concept but in the show one person always called the other Big Cat basically as a nickname. Brad said that while he was roomates with a friend I guess they did the samething and the name got stuck on Brad.
First time I heard him referred to as Big Cat was in a highlight video from the 2013 Kings Royal in which he won. The video shows the crew around the car as Sweet is getting unstrapped you can hear one of the team members in the background call out from all the congratulations "good job Big Cat" and then you can hear someone in a chuckle type voice go "don't call him that." Not sure if the name really got stuck on him after that among the team and the fans but I remember that he was not referred to as Big Cat during that race but not long after that was how he was introduced.
Being from Ohio some of the names I have come to know are
"The Wild Child" Jac Haudenschild, "The Lowrider" Dale Blaney, "Stop and Steer" Scotty Weir, "The Steel City Outlaw" Tim Shaffer, "The Apollo Rocket" Ed Lynch.

I was nicknamed "Mule" in high school when I played basketball and plowed through people. I always liked it cause it seemed original and its on the side of the car. I love hearing the announcer yell it before I get on the track. Always jacks me up.
My brother has a pretty cool nickname. The Midnight Rider. His call name on the CB because he drives an 18 wheeler at night hauling sand and stone to concrete plants.

I've always loved that nickname. It was doubly appropriate since his family owns a propane business and he was a real gasser, especially in his early career.

North Pole Nighmare is without a doubt the dumbest nickname ever.... I can't imagine anyone besides an announcer calling him that...
|
As they say, to each their own. I think it's one of the best of the current era.

I remember Sweet being called the big cat back in his non winged days, never really understood the nickname but he sure can wheel a race car.
I'm hoping 305 racer Jim "The Cowboy" Kennedy hits the track again this year. Remember Doug "The Hammer" Esh i know tenter does.

You think his friends call him that? I doubt it...
Everybody called Lawrence Peter Berra "Yogi".... he & his teammates in the minors were watching a newsreel (back in the day!) at the movies & a Hindu Yogi came on & they all thought he looked like Berra. The name stuck
"Hey Nightmare, hand me that 3/8 socket"????? Can't see it....

I've always wondered why Schatz never collected a name. Maybe trying to fit a nickname into his introduction along with " defending series and 7, 8, 9 10 time champion" was just too much for Johnny Gibson.
But now, maybe it's time to introduce you to the guy whose hauling the cargo from Fargo.....
Ford is a truck engine not a sprint car engine. ( im laughing) Maybe the cargo is too heavy.
|
OK, I got one.... I admit its pretty far fetched ;)
And it would only apply from maybe 2006 to 2018: Donny "Everybody Else is a Buncha Long" Schatz.... ;)

He was from Wyoming. I saw him race at Black Hills Speedway in the early 70's. He had that name painted on his car.
