As he said everyone has opinions & that was his !!! Why just look at those Asshats out west, do they not belong in every category he mentioned ?

I know it was his opinion. I was asking him to explain it....

Which "asshats" are you referring to?

Doesn't it matter WHAT they're protesting????

Agree on the singing of the anthem...some get it right and some are horrible.  Went to the Nashville Predators game the other night and the lady nailed it.  Really did a beautiful job.

On the protesting part....I dont think 3/4 of the people protesting know what they are indignant about.  And why do alot of protestors cover their face?  Did I miss something there?

I wasn't grouping them. It was just several examples. The point is, good, bad, evil, perfect, homeless, rich, etc...it;s all our anthem. And as a servicemember, you serve each and every one of them. I joined the military at 18 and spent 12 years in with a deployment. When I was 18, I was in school in Maryland just outside Baltimore. It was 2006. The war was rampant and many felt the need to tell you their feelings when seen in uniform. I used to take public transportation to get around when I had free time and many evenings we would use the metro to go to Baltimore or D.C. I was in school, so we didn;t have a ton of civilian clothes and many times traveleed in uniform. I had a guy come up to me and corner me and ask me why I would serve in the army when the war was unjust. With all his 9/11 ideas of govement planning and told me I was horrible and that I was an idiot and that anybody who would fight over oil was an idiot, etc. Long story short...he berated me and trashed me for wearing a uniform. I calmly said "I appreciate your input and I thank you for your words. While we do not agree and I have my own reasons for serving, I wear this uniform so you ave the right to feel that way. The flag on my shoulder represents eash and every person who calls themselves an American and I'm proud to serve so you can rightfully be an asshole while I'm sitting here minding my own business. Hopefully many more like me contonue to do so oir else one day you could be persecuted for those feelings possibly. I wish you well and have a great day." he had no clue what to say and just shook my hand and walked away. The point is... the man who posted this has a feeling. The singer he heard has a feeling. But we're all americans and guess what...that's ok that they differ.

Usually if the Anthem of any country is done poorly its typically by a recording "artist" who seems to feel that they need to turn everything into an artform. Sometimes I think they can't help themselves by doing it and don't realize that if they just keep it simple and basic it will turn out better. When you see the superbowl or big sporting event, its always the performer wanting to put their own twist on it instead of just making it what it is.

With all of that said, the anthem is just a song to me and doesn't hold a special meaning to me.  I am not religous at all either so the prayer before the race does not mean anything to me as well. However, I know that both DO mean something to others. Whether those people were/are in the military, have kids in the military, friends, parents etc or they just have a geniune pride for where they live which does not hurt anyone. Because of that, I stand & take my hat off for the 2-3mins it takes for everyone to pray and sing the anthem and then go on about my life enjoying whatever event I am attending. If you are someone who does not enjoy/like the anthem, those 2-3mins are not going to hurt you, you can do the same. Any anthem from any country really isn't about politics, they are something about uniting people that have something in common, such as we live within the same borders & enjoy the same event. Things like protesting a national anthem does not do anything for your message you want to make because your message gets lost within the protest. It becomes about you not liking the anthem instead of what your message.

Fixer has the best post, including the Thank you for the OPs service. I'm not an American but thank you also. You guys are our military.

You have an powerful anthem, hopefully some liberal wont press your govt to change the words so everyone feels spongie when they sing it.

I appreciate that song when I hear it.

RodinCanada thank you for the kind words about America. FYI I live about 50 miles from Canada as the crow flies in NE Minnesota. I attend dirt races at Superior WI Speedway where there normally is a large contingent of Canadian race fans. The thing that impresses me most about those fans is their desire to sing the Canadian Anthem. It seems as though every Canadian in the stands is singing along with it. I am very impressed with that and I have told them so.

I appreciate the anthem as a veteran and someone who has raised and lowered the flag at NAS Lakehurst in my younger days.  But as good as the anthem is I like it even better when they push off the cars.

The best part of our National Anthem is there is no mention of the absurd idea that there is a magic man in the sky that ignorant gullible sheeple think exsists. Thank Gawd

The Candian Anthem is probably one of the most beautifully written Anthems out there, period.

Thank you, but that's ironic because the best part of the Canadian Anthem is that every verse mentions the Spititual Being in heaven and on Earth that forgiven and free people know exists.

Which is why liberal politicians want to change it after every election that they win enough seats to think they can.

Even though I may not know you, I

I guess I should have said it's a beautiful melody lol. Thoughts of a magic man has suppressd human progression for centuries. While it's fairly harmless it keeps people ignorant of reality and the cause of many useless wars. Oh well it is what it is I guess. Canada is AWESOME. I'm sure there are some Aholes in Canada but I've never met one yet.

Really. 1st world countries have embraced Christianity and 3rd world countries have not too the same degree. Evidence that progressive development is aided by Faith. Look at Israel,  leader in almost every field of development . How many Noble prizes have been awarded to the Mayan tribes?

But for the sake of other posters on a racing forum I will try my best to refrain from continued dialog on this topic here. You have shared your opinion, I disagree with it.  Your points are unsupported. Have a good Christmas.

Ehhh, I'd say development has more to do with the embrace of science than faith. Many medical advancements were delayed because of religion, needless wars fought proving who's God was better, dark ages of science. I also don't think the Noble prize was awarded when the Mayans were around but plenty of scientists have won it.

As methonal said, it's fairly harmless which is why I stand during the prayer at the races. It doesn't bother me that people do something that I don't believe in & standing is respectful even though I'm not really doing the same action. The only part that does get irritating is when people say something happened because of the invisible man & you say no you feel it happened because of something else and they look at you like you're pure evil.

"I dont think 3/4 of the people protesting know what they are indignant about."????

Do you have any proof of that? i think you're wrong. Very few people would go to the trouble of protesting for a cause they didn't know about

Some of them (SMALL minority) cover their faces cause they fear getting put on some kind of government list. Others (even smaller minority) are planning illegal mischief

You're grouping all protesters together. There are all different kinds, left, right & in between

I wonder what you folks think of my favorite version of All-Time, Marvin Gaye at the NBA All-Star game years ago.  He had the players and the whole building involved.....Soulful and meaningful.....

Pretty ridiculous comments...

A) Nobel prizes didn't exist during Mayan civilization (duh...) They had the concept of zero in their mathematics, unlike the Romans, & they had a far better understanding of movement of the cosmos than Eurpoeans

B) Israel doesn't "embrace Christianity" ! (double duh)

C) Iran & Saudi Arabia also are "Faith" based countries... tell me about all their progress

D) Our number system was invented by Phoenicians & algebra by Arabians
