not to rant as the last 2 nights were enoug for me. But there is more to that than there seems. Because honestly jails are so full that authorities don't want to do anything as there is no room. And INS is such a joke there are detainees who have spent 18 months here in Oklahoma before INS ever even talked to em. If authorities were serious they would arrest all landscapers south of Nebraska b/c every single one of the Hispanic workers are latino. There is starting to be a lot of racism towards illegal immigrants which is sad b/c it is not their fault. It's the federal governments fault for not properly guarding the border. If any of us lived in Mexico and had the option (due to lack of real border control) to cross into the US.....every one of us would do it. For those illegal immigrants have way more opportunity here than there. On the bright side there are minicipalitites in Texas that are tryin to bring employers of illegal immigrants to justice and they are now suing the federal government for restitution. It's pathetic that your city council can/dpes do more to fight this problem than your federal government. But what do you expect from a president/administration that is concerned more for their friends wallets than your best interests. Most of us consider that wrong, but I'm sure Bush and company consider that retirement.

Well, yes they would be.

How many of them are here illegally is the question, isn't it?

I personally thin k we should allow the Latinos (the PC way of saying decent Mexicans) to stay, work and contribute to our society, HOWEVER, the bad ones, instead of shipping them back home for a free family reunion, I say put them in a long term detention center for a long period of time.

I feel the same way about bad "Americans" also

What we need to do is have an island for all the prisioners to go to and stay forever.

OOPS, I think England did that, and we now call it Australia LOL LOL LOL

How about putting inmates (violent ones) on the front lines in Irac...and for aliens who want in this country fight for our military 4 years service. to become a US citizen... you think this would detour some of the problem?

Keep in mind that the feds didn't target illegal aliens....they were after those particpating in the crime of identity theft. Apparently some social security numbers were used up to 30 times. Swift has cooperated with the feds before and participated in a pilot program to weed out this problem. Speculation is that Swift might not have been too upset by Tuesday's actions, it helped cut payroll and gave them a chance to suspend all operations for a couple of days.

look at all that money that is being paid in the form of tax and social security that can never be claimed on a tax return.

No wonder the Fed Govt. doesn't care.

Bottom line is however, these people are willing to work, and work for a fair wage and note gripe, while the American worker has a piss poor work ethic and demands to much of a living wage.

We all know, a cell phone for each family member over 5 years old, a computer for the kids and one for the adults minimum, and high speed Internet and cable TV with a couple movie channels thrown in is all part of the necessity of a "liveable" wage.

Of the ninety illegals that were rounded up, two will be charged with identity theft, according to a TV news report from Des Moines.

Supposedly...it's NOT illegal to transfer social security numbers to an individual. It is illegal to sell them, however.

Swift, and other companies who blatently circumvent the law, should be held accountable. So should politicians, who refuse to address the concerns of the vast majority of Americans regarding immigration and its effects.

Interestingly, the Marshalltown school authorities are now concerned about the "drop-out" issues arising when the Mexicans and their kids scurry to avoid detection and deportation. It's primarily economic, as the school system gets money based on enrollment and Mexicans account for whatever growth the schools have while the white enrollment has dropped about equally to the newcomers gains. There was even an issue a couple of years ago where kids couldn't attend the grade school in their neighborhood because speaking Spanish was a requirement.

I'm all for LEGAL immigration, from anywhere. But, especially in these times of enhanced security and an obvious lack of concern for America's traditional middle class, I fail to see where illegal immigration contributes anything positive to our country.

Officials are finally doing something? It would appear that this illegal activity has been going on for some time. Swift should swiftly be charged with all criminal charges possible. I wonder how much of this lawbreaking practice happens in Union Shops? NEAR ZERO! Send them hogs on to Oklahoma, they go well with Arkansas chickens.

Swift is a union shop. They were all using fake social security numbers.

Wow! Thats a tough one. Who would have thought? Thanks for the info. I would have thought that somewhere in the process of joining the union that something would have seemed suspicious, or at least shortly afterwards. Health-care and other benefit claims should have exposed the fake numbers. They must have really had a good scheme going. It just goes to show how very difficult it is to police these violations.

You have to look at the particular union. Lately, the trend has been for unions to focus in on the service industry and there have been a lot of "fly by night" unions popping up. they will do anything to get their "foot in the door" and it is giving the legitimate unions a bad name.

WRONG:

Lazy workers and militant thieves suchy as Jimmy Hoffa gives Union workers a bad name.

The Unions vote these people in, let them live with the reputation they create.

Huh???? Please decipher...

Ah yes, when Righties are at a loss of facts, they revert to Jimmy Hoffa. Because they don't know of any other union leaders.....LOL

If these Righties had their way, corporations would still be able to employ children in sweatshops, working 14 hours a day and propagate more disasters such as the Triangle Shirtwaist fire.

as I said, It is dumb to think that Swift did not know they were illegal. They knew but they were hoping they could just play dumb.

I wonder if this tax season there will be a glitch in the system and guys like "Mike Smith" get like a $10,000 tax return for the around 100 people who payed into his taxes of around $500,00?

Someone was telling me today that up here in Cedar Rapids a few years ago a guy who owned 2 Mexican restaurants here got caught. Not only was his employees caught but so was he. The guy had owned 2 restaurants and was illegal himself living outside town in a 2 million $ house. It all got taken away and he was shipped back. How does that happen? 2 restaurants for several years, 2 million house and many cars and toys. Took them long enough.

Hawker, I think that one flew right over you.....At least you belong to a Union, is that the Internation Association of Machinest? or something close to that?

Duane, Jimmy Hoffa was my hero as he was to many Unionist during his time, except for Bobby Boy Kennedy and the Macarthy Commission. Of all the corruption charges he faced, The only thing the feds could convect him on was Jury tampering resulting from the untrue testimony of a rival Union Leader from Lousyanna named Clay Pardin. Truck drivers and all hourly workers are better off today because of Mr. Hoffa. Even after his drumed up convection he was overwhelmingly reelected to his presidency of the Teamsters. Jimmy Hoffa, a Great American!

Roger, I guess the Union people are a whole bunch like racing promoters who start their races late and finish after 10PM.

Until they realize that the people (fans) do not approve, they will continue to lose respect and customers.

In this small town I live in, the Unions have pissed away about 2,000 jobs since 1975.

It has only been in the past few months that Fisher Controls has decided to invest in our community again, and that new facility will be staffed by engineers, NOT workers.(not that engineers don't work lol)

You may be thankful for the benefits your Union got you, but some of those greedy militant workers for all practical purposes have destroyed this once proud community whose old moto was "Progress through Pride and Purpose"

Before the Union people in here get all pissy, the modern day Union people have developed a brain and a better work ethic than the generation before them, and are just now starting to get the respect that they pissed away through lazieness, sloppy work and radical attitudes in the 60', 70's and early 80's.

I have never been a Union member, my wage package was in relationship to the quality of worker that I was, not the skill of a barganing agent.

I am happy to say also that as a mechanic for an independent repair shop, my wages and benefits were approx double what the dealerships Union shop got.
