Too bad you don't go to Port or you'd have seen Lance win on the bottom plenty of times....

Over the last two years Macri has a lot more wins at Port than DeWease...why because he runs the wall.  DeWease used to be the best at Port...... since they have to bounce it off the wall to be really fast....not anymore.  I have seen more races at Port in person than I care to count. DeWease won a lot of them in the 461.

He races there more often too....

You said " Port very rarely has a bottom groove" ..... when Lance shows up, there is!

No there is not a bottom groove when Lance shows up.  I see the highlights and see replays.  Lance doesn't always race around the bottom.  He also races one groove down from the top.  He only went to Port about 10 to 12 races this year.  Port is nothing more than an asphalt track with no bottom groove unless the track is in the 15 second bracket early in the night....other than that they isn't a bottom groove.....that is a FACT.

It just about kills me to agree with wingedstrawser but he's partially right. The bottom groove at Port rarely pays off for more than a lap or 2 and even then, it typically takes the car up top missing the line and hanging off the corner to be able to drive by. There's definitely a noticeable difference since they moved the bottom fence in a few years back. The top and bottom used to be pretty even. Just depends on who was using them. Now, the top is definitely dominant even early in the night. The bottom does seem to stick around a little longer when the track is wetter and that's mainly because the cars running down low make the middle and top dirty and there isn't as much grip. But once it cleans off, the top is almost always way faster even for Lance. He doesn't put it right on the fence though. He kind floats the middle and slides up. He can still win at Port, but he hasn't won there nearly as much since the track was made wider. One can argue all day whether or not it's better racing now but the fact is, it's definitely a more top dominant track now. Especially with the way the track has more banking right around the fence. Me personally? I prefer it the other way when there was more side by side racing as opposed to sliding someone and squeezing them against the fence like it is now.

Yeah it's not easy to win running the bottom at Port anymore. Lafferty did it this year. It's not easy running a sprint car inches off the outside rail either. There's a handful of cars who have become good at it, but none as good as Macri.

Back to the original topic. Why does the biggest race in PA pay $1300 to take the green, but the 2nd biggest pays $2000 to start and even has a non-qualifiers race that pays $2000?

The racing would be better at the Port if the had a cushion about 5 to 6 feet off the wall!  And with a cushion the track would have to be more wet at the beginning of the night!

Why does the second biggest race only pay 55 grand 60 this year because of Jim and Sandy and the Natty open pay 75 grand?  The Natty open also has 9 of the top 10 drivers in the country.  Port only has about 3 of the top 10.  That is why the Natty open is a bigger race and will be for many many many more years!!

The top three at both races were at both races. The winner from one started on the front row. The winner of the other started 19th. How did those other drivers improve one race?  A question that I don't know the answer to; does anyone know the total purse of the two? The last time I was at the Williams Grove National Steve Kinser won. For that reason I don't feel qualified to judge which race is better nor is anyone else who only attends one of them.

That is because the Port Was in the 15 second bracket early in the night.  I enjoyed both since Port was right for a change.  I watched the highlights of Port.  Much better than most nights at the Port this year.

Don't know but I would be willing to bet the Grove total purse probably was more.   I would rather go to the Grove than Port because they prepared their track better week in and week out.

Steve Kinser is the best sprint driver to ever put on a helmet.  No one will ever break his records for wins.  No, I never cheered for him except for once during the national open about 20 years ago......we got a speech that night from the guy sitting behind us.

You don't need to attend them if you see the replay or highlights. I realize that Port probably isn't going to be on next year along with maybe a couple other tracks in central Pa.  Time will tell.....

Port still isn't going to get my money until they can prove they can prepare there track correctly.  I am not holding my breath.  They did hit it right the last few times of this year!  But every once in a while a blind mouse can find the cheese.

I never said Lance was a bottom hugger... he uses the whole track, including the bottom

And slides up across the track...a well prepared track you should be able to hug the inside tail the whole way around the corner.  Like I said well prepared.

In your dreams..... probably nightmares.   The Natty open was a very good race too.  Port got lucky with Macri not qualifying through his heat.  He also goes nuts when the green flag drops at Port.  Plus the had the track right at the beginning of the night.

Still give me the Grove better racers from a to z!

Except the heats, B, Dash and A main yes grove was better.  1 guy made more money at Grove.  52 other guys made more money in the 3 day Port show.  5 outlaws who could have gotten top 12-15 does not make it better. CHOO CHOO Grove is your cup of tea, I'll take racing every time.

From your vantage point, which of the 7 races at the National Open, all won from the front row by guys who didn't pass a single car was the most exciting to watch?

But if YOU believe it, that automatically makes it true, right?

& we "can't handle the truth" if we think a win from 19 is more exciting than a win from the pole?

You do know that Macri only ran five races there during June, July & August and two of those were Speedweek? Or don't highlight videos show that?
