damn...I'm gone for awhile and look what happens....LOL

Now Spridge old buddy....where did I say that I am not a winged fan first and foremost? I have told you numerous times that is most certainly the case. It's what I know best and what is prevelent in my area. And in no way did I ever say I was impartial, nor did I say I was any kind of nonwinged expert.

Fact is though that I do enjoy watching the nonwingers on occassion, (more like 8-10 times a year, not a bunch but more than most in my neck of the woods) I also see at least that many 360 shows in addition to a shitload of 410 races. I am pretty certain I see as many races as most on here. I think that qualifies me as a fan and entitles me to an opinion like everyone else. Nobody says my views have to be anyones but my own.

My entire rant...or whatever you want to call it, was still aimed at the fact FAN is short for FANATIC and it gets old seeing someone putting down someone elses chosen passion. All I said was can't we like it all? I am old, I lose track of time. The year I spoke of was 2004. Stanborough led the whole way at L-Burg, Kruseman led all but the first lap or two at a couple races, Briscoe led the last 25 laps at Bloomington and Yeley led all 30 at Terre Haute. So I missed by a year, geez, you guys are rough. You know I have seen the majority of ISW on a couple of occassions before my time was consumed by other ventures, you have seen me at Terre Haute, L-Burg, Gas City, N. Vernon, Kokomo, Bloomington and Haubstadt. Some of them on numerous occassions. I even left Eldora three years in a row (once with Petey in tow, leech never offered to even help with gas...lol) much to the chagrin of my winged friends, foregoing the Night Before the Royal, to see ISW. Also go from the Doty to N. Vernon on a few occassions and back to Eldora to camp.

I shouldn't have popped off like I did about the if you go slow enough thing, but I just finally got tired of hearing it. They all have their good, great, and crappy races. 

LOL hawker. this was this last years sat nite t-cup a main that haud won after starting 13th and at times driving on the wall to avoid the wreakfest. most exciting race most have seen in a while

Those pictures of the winged cars three wide can only be seen on restarts. That's the only time you'll see wingers together. After a lap or two its strung out follow the leader garbage.

Don't talk out yer ass Jeff. We have racing like that all the time at Fremont and depending on the track conditions Attica can be like that also. I wouldn't go out of my way to post a picture and type a response if the racing sucked. Infact, if the wings were as bad as some of you would like to believe, I wouldn't waste my time or money going to the track every week.

It's all good ,but look at that picture. The wall is behind them,not beside and they are looking over their right shoulder to see where their going,not straight ahead. All three cars are set nice and feeling for the bite. Beautiful!

nonwingsjeff - you need to get out more. Check my site. Go through the photos from Chico, Tulare, Hanford, and even Placerville and you will find plenty of three wide photos and I assure you they are not all on restarts.

I like both forms of racing but each is very different. Kind of like comparing apples to oranges. And for those that call the non-wings traditional. The only thing traditional about it is the lack of a wing. Don't agree take a look at some of Mr. Consoli's photos.

That's what traditional signifies, no wing, not that it looks like a 50's sprinter. A winged sprinter is a Modified! If you put a wing on a midget it's a modified midget, right? Same thing.

So the only thing that has to remain a constant for it to remain traditional is that they don't put a wing on it?

I can perfectly understand non-wing sprintcars and winged sprintcars as a definition of the two. I think the majority of sprint car fans must feel the same way. No not the 40-50 that hang out on the message boards but the rest of the people that get in the stands everyweek. They go to see a sprint car race, sometimes with a wing sometimes without. I don't however see them adverstised as traditional or modified sprint car races.

I'm with coachbob. Why do we have to like one or the other? A little ribbing here and there is fine but folks on this board and others take it way to far. For some it comes off as all out hatred and despise.

Oh yeah - I like a good late model and occaisional modified race as well.

I was at Ascot when the first cages showed up, I was a teenager and I can tell you a lot of racers were against it but when it was excepted was that the end of traditional sprintcars? I don't think so. See what I mean? A lot of us just use traditional to signify no wing. A silver crown car is still a champ dirt car to some even when it's running at PIR. Would you turn to that person and say "but that's not dirt"..

BigFish - That is exactly what I am talking about. It is a matter of "your" definition to what is traditional or not. Some use it as you intend in that it simply signifies no wing. Others use it with such vigilance and vial to make it sound as there are traditional non-wing sprints cars and everything else is not a sprint car.

My real point is they are all sprint cars wing, no wing, dirt or asphalt and everyone should enjoy them while they have them because as is "tradition" in racing they will change to something that they are not today.

Been to a traditional race this year and in two weeks will be at a non traditional race. Or four nights of sprint car racing.

Some say Jan Opperman and others like him were outlaws because they didn't belong to a sanctioning body and came and stoled the show and the money but for more than a few it also meant modifying a sprinter with a wing. Some were called "outlaws" for putting on a wing. For me the tradition that was broken with the wing is that you don't steer the car with the gas, but with air. Big difference.

Talk about talking out your ass, I've been to Fremont, that place sucks! Dry slick garbage! You go there every week? Sorry about your luck, you must be into pain or either a few fries short of a happy meal.

That picture above with the winged cars four wide was the parade lap wasn't it? Oh, that's right, all winged races are parade laps! (LOL)

I may be wrong, but what they call modifieds today, to me they look alot more like your traditional sprint car than a winged sprint car. Unless we are talking about the Super Modifieds that I watch at Sandusky and Mansfield on occassion. Either way though, I even watch them. I must really be sick.

Well, an interesting discussion, glad to see some people still have a passion for something, even if they do want to rub it in our faces. My passion is for food....so I'm heading to the fridge and getting ready to watch the twin 150's. Yea, I know, watching anything but traditional sprint cars is stupid, but that's me.

" Huests Speedway "? Knoxville is not a big non wing track is it! The one they ran with the nationals was lousy because the track was toast from the previous winged show's. Sammy's been running non wing stuff for years and it was no big surprise he won, same with the"wild child" seen em both run without many times at Manzy and since they both like to run em high....well.
